Re: OpenCPN and tidecurrents

Yes, the zoom factor is no issue: what I see in the RPI I do not see on my pc; same zoom factor or more.

Re: OpenCPN and tidecurrents

So do you miss tides completely or just the icon is not changing in "blue arrows" bar when you zoom in ? Sorry, it is still not clear to me from your posts.

From Verkerkbr posting #10: tides.zip.pdf download gives HARMONIC.IDX and NL_Current.IDX files which continually update to actual current direction and speed, together with graphical 24h windows.
In Options/Charts/Tides and Current these files can be selected and hence displayed on chart if selected as active in the right "piano" menu.

Well, regardless of these instructions, I cannot get the blue arrows with the corresponding info displayed on my pc (v5.2.4), and just as not on a new install on another pc (v5.2.0).

These blue arrows: see my post #12, in attachment "RPI OpenCPN.pdf" and "RPI OpenCPN + tides graph.pdf". On RPI they do show up.

Re: OpenCPN and tidecurrents

Please do me a favor.
First ignore the gribs completely, turn on the tide and current display in the "hamburger" menu on the bottom right and make sure you see exactly the same thing as shown on this screenshot:

If you do not see exactly the same thing, you did not install the tide/current data provided earlier in this thread correctly, need to go back to the instructions and do it.
Once you do, and only if you do, go to BSH Currents and download the Northsea grib. Open that grib in the Grib plugin and check that you again see the same thing as this:

If you don't, post a screenshot of what you do see. If you do, zoom in to some of the blue tide icons and tell me if it changed to an arrow when you got very close to it.

Re: OpenCPN and tidecurrents

Thank you so much Nohal for your patience and helpful input!
From your post:
1. first image: ok I have that
2. 2nd image: ok, I have that, and with latest grib's from BSH
3. opening tides on the blue squares: ok I get those (attachment PC tide output.pdf)

But on my RPI I also do get many tens of extra blue arrows indicating current strength and direction; and when I right click on these, I also get the tide windows.

Re: OpenCPN and tidecurrents

Lucky you. Copy the harmonics you are using on the Pi to your PC, install them exactly as you did with the ones provided here and you are done.

I think you choosen the wrong file from the folder. Both are called Hamonic but are on another location. There are several items on my folder. But take the harmonic file.

Then you two harmonic files but in a different folder.

Remove the second item and add a new harmonic from my folder.

Waiting for the outcome.

Hi Bram,

just to make sure I understand:
1. Options/Charts/Tides & Currents active datasets:
Here the IDX files to be used are identified
2. Here the following files are stored: HARMONIC.IDX and NL_Current.IDX. I use those from your post #10 (tides.zip.pdf)

I store these in f:/Algemeen/a_Zeilen/OpenCPN

No blue arrows.

Now the funny part: I just moved the pointer (Options/Charts/etc..) from f:/.. to c:/Program Files (x86)/OpenCPN/tcdata and bingo: one blue arrow appears; somewhere between Calais and Dover.

Where are the multitude of other blue arrows..?
