Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1114 (RC-2) Released

Dear Dave,

here is the info (see attached).

As to the backtrace, I wasn't able to get all the info into the screenshot, so I attached a textfile of the clipboard (the .doc-file for size reasons).

Thank you very much for your help.

All the best,

Uwe

Sorry for more questions...
I cannot find a rPi4 buster 32 download that matches your configuration.
How/where did you get or build your SDCard image? Or did you do some sort of online update/regress?

Thanks
Dave

And one more:
What charts are you loading (if any)?

Aldebaran17...

Regarding the problems demonstrated with oeSENC_pi on MacOS, you may like to update that plugin from the master catalog. Version 4.3.2 is now available, correcting several display issues on MacOS Hi Definition display (Retina).

Thanks

Dear Dave,

thanks for your reply - and you shouldn't work on sundays ...

As to your questions, I installed the standard available package from the rPI home page about a year ago then OpenCPN and all the maps I am using they are CM93 and BSB maps plus some built from Sat2Chart.

The system was regularly updated using the normal update/upgrade functions. I do this at home and brought the system to my boat beginning of November. Everything worked excellently until after I did a recent update/upgrade here in the harbour, which installed some system upgrades and brought OpenCPN to 5.5.1116. So, I am not sure, whether the problem is caused by any system update or OpenCPN. As the system in general is running fine, I attributed all this to the new OpenCPN Version.

However, I also thought, it probably was a HW error of the micro SD and so I installed a new system on a new micro SD, but here the rPi homepage led me to installl "Bullseye" ... so, I am trapped some way ...

So the problem is around the time OpenCPN 5.5.1116 became available, whether this is now a rPi-problem or an OpenCPN problem, I have no clue...

Does this help in any way??

If there is a way to install "Buster" on a new micro SD, I would reconstruct the whole thing with "Buster" and try from there. If it is easier to point me to a source of an actual "Buster", this may - without any complicated diagnosis - solve the problem?!

Thanks again, and best regards,

Uwe

You can easily load buster with latest stable OpenCPN and all plugins by just installing this image (use armhf version)

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1114 (RC-2) Released

Now ....

dear Dave,

it seems, that I have found some "culprits" causint these "Assert Failures"

1. I purged OpenCPN from the system and manually removed whatever directories were around.
2. Installed OpenCPN again and then enabled and updated the plugins, one by one - when enabling "Dashboard Tactics" I got several failure messages (Assert Failure).
3. Disabled "Dashboard Tactics and uninstalled. No failure...

4. Enabled my map directiries one by one (the whole five miles scanning the database, renewing, one by one, etc.) No problems at all, UNTIL:
5. Enabled the CM93 maps and here I again got the Assert failures (eight messages). ....

O.K., so both - Dashboard Tactics and CM93 contributed to the problem(s). This definitely seems to be a problem with 5.5.1116, as before everything worked well.

Does this give you any clue??

The system runs now and I have no idea, what influence the CM93 problem will have during runnign, however, I would feel safer, if this would be solved some was, o.k.??

Again, thanks a lor for all the efforts and trouble you took (and still take) with this.

Best regards,

Uwe

1. For a fresh rPI4 Buster (armhf) image, I suggest that you use OpenPlotter Starting image, found here:

https://cloud.openmarine.net/s/sL9doDML7P4CQDo

This will allow us to compare results directly, without wondering about differing kernels, etc.

2. Dashboard-tactics has some trouble on buster/armhf. I suggest you disable this plugin until an upgrade is published.

3. On the ASSERT message when loading cm93: I suggest that your cm93 chart directory is corrupted, somehow. If you rebuild your SDCard from scratch, using OpenPlotter Buster, perhaps the problems will be resolved.

Good Luck

Dave,

I got an error message during install: Checksum Error.

Yes, I did. I just tried a third download after restarting the computer, the error still pops up.

Dear Dave,

thanks again for your help.

As to the CM93 maps, I rebuilt the complete directory from scratch. The error still remains.

Therefore I will try to use OpenPlotter, but - please - here give me some time, as I have to first get this image using the not so powerful harbour network and second have to get the computer out of its cabinet...

I will give you feedback, as soon as possible, o.k.?

Just as an aside, I tried to enable alarms in the AIS menu (the "ships tab in the settings of OpenCPN) and I am missing all the buttons I had earlier, where I could select a proper sound, etc. Do you know anything about that?

Again, thanks and best regards,

Uwe
