OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

Here is OpenCPN v5.5.1129 (RC4)

Windows
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/davi...1129_setup.exe

MacOS
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/davi...N_5.5.1129.pkg

ubuntu/debian linux:
Available soon in the OpenCPN Ubuntu Launchpad repositories

flatpak:
$flatpak update org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta
$flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN//beta

Source code
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN
branch : master
tag : Beta_5.5.1129

Changelog:

1. Correct signalK management of some null sensor values.
2. Correct plugin settings->page insertion/deletion logic
3. Improve MacOS color scheme for Light/Dark mode switching
4. Improve GRIB Sea Surface Temp color presentation

Notes:
1. This is the fourth Release Candidate. What this means is this: If testing shows no "show-stoppers", then we simply change the Version indicator to "5.6.0", and publish as an official Release.
2. Special Request, MacOS users: Please test Light and Dark mode, and the various OCPN dialogs and plugins for readability. Some of these color setups have been tweaked for better useability.

I really think that this is "it".

Good Luck, and Thanks for your help
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

Dear Dave,

I found one more (last) issue with OpenGL. When activated the the ShowCompass/GPS (in the upper right corner) becomes very small. See attached two screen shots, the only difference is Use Accelerated Graphics on or off.

Best,

Manfred

Hard to test the Night mode while sitting at home in an arm-chair. My last time real night experience (this summer on a RaspPi) was, that some features are ultra bright and make it impossible to operate at night: it was the tool bar, the bar with the zoom lenses, the GPS/Chart bar and a very thin (like 1 pixel or so), but bright, rim of the dashboard plugin.

When looking at it now - at home on a Mac - all four points are still problematic. It may be hard to see on the screen shot. If you compare the grey depth lines on the chart, with the grey level of the boat of the tracking icon, or with magnifying glas, or with the text of the status bar, or with the upper rim of the dish board, you can see that all these features are more bright than the chart features. Does not look like much at home, but it was very bad while enroute.

Best,

Manfred

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

Hi Dave,

I have tested the 1129 version on several Linux systems:

1. Linux Mint AMD64. All options are working perfect. Oesenc plug 0.9.042. Also working on the flatpak version.

2. Ubuntu Hirtute on the RPI 4. Almost everything is working perfect but no plugin for the "non-flatpak" OpenCPN version.

3. RaspiOS based on Debian Bullseye 64. Works on both versions with the 1129. No Oesenc plugin and no OpenGL available. Switching OpenGL to on, the system flips away at the start of O. But the sceen movement are still very fast.

4. Debian Bullseye 64. Same results as 3. But working also very fast.

All the RPI OS's can be run from an SD, SSD or from a fast 3.1 usb stick.

On most of the RPI versions I have added some of the OpenPlotter extra's.

Thanks for all the efforts of you and your team to make a perfect chartplotter software version.

If you are using a Mac the operating system macOS offers far better tools for this task. Don't use functions the OS can do better.

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

Forget the mention the test with the latest Ubuntu Impish 64 version on the RPI. The flatpak version also with 0.9.42 plugin works verry well. But no plugin for the the "non-flatpak" version.

However there a still a problem with the serial input in this version. Kernel seems to miss the driver for serial.

All inputs on my systems are made via the SignalK server software. Can be done from an USB GPS or from NMEA2000 via the Canable board or the Actisense NGT-1.

Dave..

nice to see the short version on top of the main window now.

What to keep the long one in the "about"?

You really should be using the managed version of oeSENC plugin. The packaged version is obsolete.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

MBP M1 Pro: Couple of bugs...

When hovering over a route the yellow box with route info is tiny and unreadable - only when using accelerated graphics.

mbtiles (made on sasplanet) appear black when using an o-charts chart, but work fine when using a CM93 chart.

Watchdog plugin and AIS radar view plugins do not work - do not appear in the sidebar or remain activated.

Not sure screenshot will help, but here they are. I have mbtiles files made for my local area, if I select one whilst the selected chart is an oeSENC chart, all I see is black; if the selected chart is CM93 then the mbtiles file displays fine.

Jean, what did you do to make this happen?

Re: OpenCPN Beta 5.5.1129 Released

deleted old install on old MacBook Pro running Catalina. Downloaded and installed 5.5.1129. Found it to work and be very fast. Color scheme is nice, in that the OS switches to "Dark Mode."

Not all plugins work, though. So far I've successfully installed KonniLogbook, OTCurrents, oeRNC & oeSENC. The rest (Climatology, Polars, WeatherFax, Squiddio, etc.) say they install, but don't load (just display the "puzzle" icon and don't show up in the menu bar after clicking "OK" out of plugin manager). WeatherRouting, Tactics, and OPenDraw don't even show up in PI Manager as installable options.

I had removed the old app and OpenCPN folder in "Application Support" and in "Preferences". Was there something else I should have removed?
