The CubieTruck Seems to work for CM93 and ENC.

Raster has always had problems with occasional hangups.
Some may have been because I did not know that texture caching needed to be done for all colour schemes, but "EGL BAD ALLOC" has always been a problem.

I'm thinking of ordering an Nvidia Jetson TK1 ($99now), it has desktop OpenGL and GLes, so I could potentially test GLes on that platform as well.
The other option would be Intell Compute stick, but more money, less performance, and less likely to have good graphics.

Cheers,
JM.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Who is the person who coordinates the changes in the manual? I build a complete new manual in Dutch for 4.0. Not only translated but ompletely renewed in layout. Have a look at: OpenCPN 2015-1

But now I am working on the Dutch version for 4.2 version. I found Updating the User Manual | Official OpenCPN Homepage with the updates including 4.1.602. But off course I want to see all the changes for 4.2.

And,...... also important...., who can tell me what has expired! Software developers tell proudly what is new but they seldom (never?) tell what has been dropped. Like the ALT for the menubar in Windows! Manuals are very important for "newbies" and if they find wrong (old/outdated) information it is very frustrating.

I already contacted the person who translates the UI in Dutch so I could make new screenshots with the right text for 4.2 already.

JM,

I like arm and making mali graphics usable is important. It would be interesting to compare with newer mali boards.

The TK1 is ARM and I trust NVIDIA has done a good job on the drivers.

I will keep working with the CubieTruck, but I am also trying to get ready to go cruising next spring.

Cheers,
JM.

Aart,

you should contact Thomas/"cagney" who achieved to put this great manual together. But he is now offshore sailing - finally and really great to see - and therefore will not have the same time budget (nor Internet bandwidth) to touch the manual as before. Thus additional manpower on this front his highly appreciated.

Stuff you can try, it won't fix the blur but may help with the big hangups, but without fully cached textures it will always stutter if it has to push big charts.

- Is this a 32 bit OS?
If yes you can try to set a smaller value for MEMCacheLimit= in opencpn.conf, 512 or 640.
On 32 bits linux really needs some room in the first GB RAM.

- Is your home directory encrypted?
If yes move your charts directory and OCPN cache: .opencpn/SEC .opencpn/raster_texture_cache to an unencrypted volume, either the whole .opencpn directory or with symlinks

you can also try a different memory allocator like jemalloc, on debian like system:
apt -get install <you have to find the version of libjemalloc for your version>
and run opencpn from a terminal:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libjemalloc.so ./opencpn

Can you run in a terminal top or vmstat and look at 'us', 'sy', 'id' when it hangs for minutes?

Todays Git, Win an VS2013
Great improvement reading Tools-Options-User Interface! Now it opens quick and fine as the other tabs. This has been slow and annoying since Android changes.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave
Language font mismatch and OCPN can't be closed at certain conditions
Win(10) VS2013 and resent GitHub code.

This bug is hard for me to give a proper description so I go direct to method to reproduce:

1. Have the language set to English
2. Arrange so you've some AIS targets with on screen ship names during this procedures.
3. Enter "User interface" and switch to Swedish.
4. Restart OCPN to finalize.
5. Enter "User interface" and change font and color for "AIS Målnamn" (= AIS Target name)
6. Accept and check on chart that the font change didn't occur.
7. Enter "User interface" and change font for "AIS Target name" (Which still is present?)
8. Accept and check on chart that the font has changed.
9. Try to close OCPN - nothing happens! It's still alive and can't be closed.
10.Enter "User interface" and switch to English.
11.Now it's possible to close OCPN.

I've reproduced this a couple of times with the same result.
Please check if you get the same failure.

The language part of Opencpn.ini is attached. (Delete ".pdf")

Thanks
Håkan

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

The "Waypoint Properties" dialog is so big....and it does not remember resizing efforts. I tried with a spanking new opencpn.conf. Same result, so it's big by default, or have I missed something?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

NOAA raster chart 11312 (and probably others) does not display correctly. Attached are screen shots of what O displays and what it should be. The inset chart does not display in O. Is this a "bug" or "feature"?

Nik,

the manual - "?" button or All About Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage - will answer all your questions related to chart material.

and while yer at it if only these were off to the side, say starting from a default of 0,0 on the screen instead of plunk in the center...

I concur. I see the same thing. I believe I know what is happening. I'll have a patch later today.

Gotta go Christmas shopping now, though. Only 5 days left....

Thanks
