Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Compiled opencpn_4.1.1108_GIT12-762e7bb-MPR535-did-g-option_tex_compress
and tested on Dell XPS Inspiron 15 with Nvidia Geforce 540M with Windows10 and 8gb ram. OpenGL=On ShowChartOutline=On

Faster and more stable by far than IntelHDGraphics on SurfacePro3 with Opengl=On and ShowChartOutline=OFF!

Had to zoom in and out and pan all of Europe, Norway, Alaska, and down the US coast before I got a (brief) black screen Opencpn Memory now up to 1500mb and Total Memory at 59% and it still works fine and this took much longer to get to the first black screen than SurPro3. Of course it has 8gb. The machine is hot. I don't think it at all likely that cruisers will cover this kind of territory as fast, but the problem is with slower machines with Intel HD Graphics and less Ram where the limit is reached much faster.

This version is working very nicely on Nvidia. I will give the SP3 a spin with the new version tomorrow.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Hi Pavel,

I got a new clone and everything seems to work. Most likely an error on my end, but when I did a "git fetch --all", git never retrieved the SVG files. When I retrievd the new clone, it all seems to work. I get a link error from chrtldr_pi not finding opencpn.lib when try to create a release build, but it works fine if I run create the package. opencpn.lib is present and where it was in my previous clone. Like I said, the package build works fine. Thanks for all of your and transmitterdan's help.

Regards,
Doug

Compiled opencpn_4.1.1108_GIT12-762e7bb-MPR535-did-g-option_tex_compress
and tested on SurfacePro3 with Intel HD 4400 graphics (I think) with 4 gb of ram.
Took it up to 1500mb for Opencpn Memory and 90% total memory. There was one black screen brief. The memory seems to fill up faster if you can believe that. It was faster and better than before. Using Opengl=On and ShowChartOutlines=OFF.

Will try showchartoutline=ON tomorrow.

For Windows build you always have to run cmake twice to link chartdldr_pi with the latest opencpn.lib. It has been this way for some months.

Yep, the build order on Windows is wrong and chartdldr_pi gets built before the core - the fix is simple, but I forgot to commit it, will be in the master soon.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

AIS scaled blue flag and AtoN
Win 10 VS2013, Git fetch 30 minutes ago.(incl. 21d9f3a...)

When using scaled AIS the Blue Flag symbol is not scaled, see pict.
(1, 2 = scaled. 3 = not scaled)

The AtoN symbol is rather big but nothing new I think. Pict 1

Amoungst all the other more important things going on, I just wanted to mention that opencpn_4.1.1108 762e7bb MPR535 did-g-option_tex_compress
Showed a black screen with a grey bar for the toolbar while processing
Full Chart Database Rebuilds.

Thanks
Dave
I never get a crash dialog but O does create a crash report some of the time.

Right now I can't recreate the circumstances where nothing is generated but I have spammed your inbox with three instances of reports which were created. In the case where I start with OpenGL enabled, when I attempt to zoom or pan I get an endless hang which I eventually have to force close. In the case where I start with OpenGL disabled and then select OpenGL with or without texture caching enabled I get an immediate crash to the desktop.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

SurfacePro3 i5-4300U Cpu x64 dual core 1.9ghz > 2.9ghz Haswell 4gb with Intel 4400 HDGraphics 20 Execution Units at 200 - 1100 MHz with Turbo Boost

Using very recent compile opencpn_4.1.1108_5dbd637-UpdateTranslationsCrowdin
Opengl=On ShowChartOutlines=On CM93 charts.
Zoom and Pan around Norway,
Very quickly O-memory up to 650mb with 77% total memory, and first black screen occurred.
Then it worked fine and did most of Norway, going up to O memory=1500mb (78%) with Total Memory at 92% -->How high can you go?
The blue wheel pauses things but it is not too bad, just be patient. Only one other black screen in the test near the 1500mb level.

This is useable. The ChartBoxes no longer seem to create the same problems as before! Nice achievement did-g and bdbcat! Thankyou.

I think users of SurfacePro may want to shut down the machine daily and reboot, to clear the memory use...

I guess it is technically hard and very counter productive to clear out unused portions of memory and optimize O's use of memory, because it will slow the whole operation down. Wait... while writing this
Opencpn Memory went down to 32.5mb and total memory was down to 74%.. I also had a Warning in the Taskbar that I should shutdown due to low memory. "Close programs to prevent information loss. - Windows will only close enough programs to restore needed memory."

Instead of closing, I minimized it to occupy part of the screen, O-mem went to about 250mb, 0% cpu. Then minimized to taskbar and it stayed about the same, then closed it down.and Total memory dropped to 62%.

I then ran System Mechanic an it recovered 320mb of memory and Memory use was left at 48% when I closed System Mechanic..

If you set 'enable transparent toolbar' in options->display->advanced is it working?

If you're seeing a transparent toolbar you're using a compositing one but I did some tests and it doesn't seem to matter, ie I can't reproduce your issue.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

For testing I did a new install and there's something very wrong, it could be my setup but:
Ubuntu 12.04 with wx 3.0 (locally compiled)
gtk 2

in the newly created opencpn.conf there's

Code:
[Settings/GTKFonts]
en_US-09b97775=Menu:Ubuntu 11:rgb(0, 0, 0)
And it doesn't like it, when using cm93 it creates a new font (different text->pFont address) for every text entry.

if I replace 'Ubuntu 11' with 'Sans 11' it works, ie only one font and of course it's a lot faster.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Update release 4.1.1301.

In the update section of my Mint 64 version, OpenCPN 4.1.1301 appeared.

Installed this new version.

However it is not an improvement. Hitting the settings button than O is switched to off.

Marks on the Dutch ENC cards also do not show at the right size but looks like squares and small circles. Text is shown.

Perhaps it has something to do with the version number 13.

I can send the log file. But I think this update is a mistake.

I can also try it on my other systems.

Regards and a Happy New Year,

Bram
