Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.602 Release

JP,
read in dc.h:

// this function is deprecated because its name is confusing: you may
// expect it to work with logical coordinates but, in fact, it does exactly
// the same thing as SetDeviceClippingRegion()
//
// please review the code using it and either replace it with calls to
// SetDeviceClippingRegion() or correct it if it was [wrongly] passing
// logical coordinates to this function

I see the same. Do you have a good idea for how to fix it? Are those really the only warnings you get? I have a few more.

Sean

1) I made a complete compilation on my three environments

- Windows Vista + VS2010 + wx3.0.2
- Windows 8.1 + VS2010 + wx3.0.2
- Linux Kubuntu 14.04 + gcc + wx3.0.2

I got several warnings, but not always the same with all environments
You can find attached all these warnings with the correspondent environments

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.602 Release

On my net book Window 8.1 I add sometime a crash.
I am for the moment unable to describe clearly which action/process creates
this crash but what I can say is each time it happened, I had manipulated intensively
routes before, creating several, moving routes points, using measure tool...
The crash happened either during these manipulations, or when exiting O.
The are two problems:
- the crash itself ( which action creates it is to be found )
- When restarting O after the crash, I get a broken environment with duplicated routes and Way points as described in #1785.
I found that if I delete the change file , I retrieve a "normal" environment
Off course I have also to delete all broken or duplicated routes and way points

JM,

I have not succeeded to build a revised version of 4.1 from Github library.

Still left with the problem of the Chart-bar on the ARM.

When can we expect a new Beta version of 4.1 with corrected chart-toolbar ?

On my other systems (at home) and the Eeepc (on board) 4.1.602 goes perfect. However still not on my power-saving Banana ARM thing.

Regards,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.602 Release

I'm curious about the acceptance of OpenCpn. Certainly everyone here uses OpenCpn actively, but I'm curious about the REST OF THE WORLD. Specifically, I'm talking about reviewers such as Panbro and publications such as Pacific Northwest Boating and even Boat-US. Both have reviewed PC based electronic charting, mentioning all the commercial products, but not OpenCpn. I've written them mentioning OpenCpn and never received any answer, either published or offline.

So what is going on? Are the commercial publications, not just limited to the ones mentioned above, just interested in products that are for sale, or am I missing something. I've bought/used Cap'n, Fugawi and Maptech and certainly OpenCpn is the equal.

And now Panbro is touting how good Nobeltec and Furuno radar work on a PC. You have to buy Admiral or equivilant and their radar for about $3500. Not a mention of OpenCpn.

Any comments? Other than this is off thread. I'm just curious if I'm missing something.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.602 Release

Can the developers please explain why the beta's for the PC - Windows Mac and Linux are falling so far behind behind the Android versions ?

The last PC beta was 2 June and there have been a number of Android releases since then - it is well past the time for a new PC Beta to be released to clear up the bugs and add in new facilities.

The PC users of this program outnumber the Android users by at least 1000 to 1 and probably far more yet the development cycle seems to be wholly orientated towards the Android version ??????

Frustrated PC user !!!!!

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.602 Release

Doug...
Don't worry, it is coming. But let us asses when we are done with the stuff it needs to contain and it's worth to package it, please.
If you read the commit log, you will see the development cycle is not at all wholly oriented towards Android, but of course yes, it is a priority to stabilize this new port as early as possible and for that we need to make releases that would bring nothing new to a PC user.
If you are eager to test every new commit, you can always build the master code yourself...

Pavel,

I commend you for the restraint you showed in your recent post.

@Doug - no malice intended in this response to you, may I politely remind you this is a volunteer driven effort. If you haven't already, contribute where your skills allow, research solutions where possible and we will all benefit in the resulting
product. If you desire software delivered on a defined schedule, there are alternatives.

I agree, the developers don't need to explain anything, the rest of us are very appreciated of what they are completing.
Cheers Terry

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925

I rarely post so forgive me for jumping into this thread.

Recently installed 4.1.925 on a windows Vista desktop.
Have been using Opencpn for a while now....and I'm impressed with the quality of product/plugins and the substantial effort that goes on behind the scenes.

I'm encountering a consistent crash on program close that has me stymied.
Opencpn performs just fine when operating (with a couple of minor exceptions)
but consistently crashes on close. Have reinstalled the build 4 times, I did notice that the crashes occurred after the plugins have been installed and activated.

Are there any tools/help files around that will help me diagnose the problem?

Minor problems
1) the draw plugin doesn't install properly ( ? error 127)
2) The Weather router plugin declares that the grib plugin is the wrong version but executes just fine.

For 4.1.925 you will need the latest compiled version of the draw-PI from Rick´s site (you are under Windows I suppose).

It's probably one of the plugins. If you can try disabling some to determine which one it is it would help. Also send a backtrace.
