I built a small patch to solve this issue. Necessary changes are minimal but critical for Linux and Mac users as most of them do not have the necessary skills to bypass this issue.
In this flurry of feedback on the Beta Release, I would like to highlight and confirm the importance of Fulup's post concerning support for the latest generation of Class B AIS Transponders. The majority of new transponders released in 2012 (including Digital Yacht AIT2000, Raymarine AIS650, Sitex, etc.) will all not appear in the list of serial ports when setting up an AIS connection in OpenCPN on a MAC or LINUX computer.

Interfacing equipment together is the single biggest problem for most users and anything that can be done to make this easier has to be good for OpenCPN. It sounds like Fulup has done the hard work and released a patch and it would be really good if this could be included in the next Beta Release.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Hello Dave,

I can to reproduce the message when I use the command "Copy to KML" I reported in post # 37.

You should know that I have:
- The dongle Nv-Verlag, which allows me to display the NV-Verlag charts using plugin NV-Verlag,
- The stick VisitMayHarbour , which also allows me to display VisitMyHarbour charts.

In each case, the charts are Raster BSB charts. But I thing that this is not important.

I cleaned the charts which were loaded so that there is only the folder Chartkitt Nv-Verlag. I forced rebuild the database.

Then I added the folder for VisitMyHarbour charts and I force rebuilding the database.

Then, if I try to use the command "Copy to KML ...", then I have the problem that I speak in post #37 in this tread.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Hello Dave,

I have realize more tests. And the last test is :

1° I run OCPN
2° I Clean all folder of charts that I have load previously
3° I Load only folder which is in the VisitMyHarbour stick.
4° I rebuil the database
5° I try to use "Copy to KML" .... The problem is present.
5° I chutdown OCPN
6° I stop the PC
7° I put out the dongle Nv-Verlag out of the usb port.
8° The stick VisitMyhabour is on the usb port.
9° I run the PC

10° I note, that in this case, the stick VisitMyHarbour is not automatically take in account.

11 I run OCPN
12° The problem is not present.
13° I shutdown OCPN
14° I put out stick VisitMyHarbour from the usb port
15° I put in the stick VisitMyHarbour into the usb port

16° Then, the stick is automatically accepted

17° I Run OCPN
18° Then the problem is present.

So I thing that the problem is du to this stick.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

hello Dave,

Other test :

I uninstalled completely OCPN and cleaned the PC with Ccleaner.
I install another OCPN 3.1.1319
I run OCPN with NV Verlag charts ---> No problem (so, using dongle NV-Chart) I can use "Copy to KML"
I shutdown OCPN
I add the VisitMyHarbour stick and it is automatically take in account
I Run OCPN -----> no problem, I can use "Copy to KML"

I add the folder charts of VisitMyHarbour

Then ---> the problem appear. ---> I canot use "Copy to KML" as in post #37

Who can help me?
Gilletarom

It's in the OpenCPN.org wiki. See Chapter "The Route Manager and Gpx Data" scroll down to heading !"Reduce Track Data".

In short, right click on a track in the Route manager, to see the option!

Even better yet. However, after making a few definition changes and applying them, like the vector detail to display, I lost the chart outlines for the CM93 charts in the library.
I remember setting that on in the original setup, but I can't find it in the 1319 tool box.

They did display for awhile, perhaps from the old residual definition, has that been intentionally dropped or am I missing something?
The functionality for showing CM93 outlines has not changed. What has changes is where a few settings are located, as described in the on-line wiki.
In Options-> Display tick "Enable Chart Quilting" and "Show Chart Outlines". Press "OK".
Now to see the outlines just press "F9" to show outlines, press again to hide.
Alternatively, to see the outlines all the time, don't tick "Enable Chart Quilting", just "Show Chart Outlines". Press "OK".

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Dave

I found some regressions, .... or maybe it's only my head spinning

#137. Remove requirement of active GPS signal for routepoint GPS upload from context menu.
#158. Add "Send to GPS" to Route context menu.

I can't see "Send to GPS" neither for a route nor for a wpt, in the focused context menus. GPS on or off, no difference!
IIRC both worked in the alpha series before this last beta, at least at some stage.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Extended Mark link handling with spaces in the file name:

Very minor issue

On Linux the Extended Mark link will fail silently if the html address has a space in it. Would it be possible for O to introduce the necessary %20 as, for example, Chromium would do in the same circumstance?

To illustrate, if you try to link to

"Test File.html"

it fails where

"Test%20File.html"

succeeds.

Best

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Hello Dave,

Command "Copy as KML"

With charts loaded, I made other tests and I summarize the results here:

1 °)
- I open and I OpenCPN displays a chart but not a chart VisitMyHarbour. (Eg CM93, NV-Verlag, ENC ...)
- I close OpenCPN
- I reopened OpenCPN

So the Copy command as KML "works without problems.

2) I display a chart of VisitMyHarbour,

Then the command "Copy as KML" no longer works, even if, after, I display a chart not belonging to VisitMyHarbour ..

I looked at the difference in the file according opencpn.ini that closes with a VisitMyHarbour chart or a chart that does not belong to VisitMyHarbour.
I saw that two variables change:
- initialdbindex
- VPSLatlon

I guess the only one that is important here is "initialdbindex."
During operation, would have:
When changing from one VisitMyHarbour chart to another chart type, process forgot it was before with visitMyharbour.
