OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Ahoy, OpenCPN'ers...

OpenCPN Version 3.1 Beta Build 814 will soon be available for download from opencpn.org.

Monitor the opencpn.org Downloads page to find and download the latest Beta version binaries.....

Source is available now on github at:
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN
Branch: beta31_stable

Changelog

28. Correct for multiple tide/current dataset loading.
29. Implement automatic/dynamic Great Circle route creation.
30. Correct rotated WorldChart rendering.
31. Implement multiple partial cm93 dataset support.
32. Implement enhanced Copy/Paste operations for KML objects.
33. Implement specific interface to/from QtVlm sailing route optimizer.
34. Change GPX Waypoint export policy to include points in routes as unique items.
35 Add UI dialog to allow user selection of MOB icon visibility.
36. Improve SingleChartMode pan/zoom dynamics
37. Various UI enhancements.
38. Implement "confirm" dialog for deletion of shared waypoints.
39. Implement Undo/Redo function (ctrl-Z, ctrl-Y) for waypoint create/move/delete
40. Correct invisible track segment context menu selection ability. (FS#866)
41. Implement chart printing for OpenGL (FS#846)
42. Add HotKey (ctrl-B) for chart selector bar visibility.
42. Revamp right click context menu for charts to add sub-menus.
43. Improve AIS Target Query dialog display format.

Release Beta 3.1.814

Release Notes:
General: There has been a lot of work involving the various display modes and interaction with the Background chart.
This may be the most critical item to investigate on this Beta. And, of course, some new UI candy.

29. Automatic Great Circle route creation. This is fun. Thanks, jesperwe.
36. Single Chart Mode: Allow greater zoom range, and do not automatically switch to another chart when the selected chart moves away from center-screen. Makes single chart mode less useful for navigation, and more useful for general chart reading.

Thanks for your continued testing support!

Good Luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Is there any time frame for the addition of multiplue data input selection option?

Thanks for all your work everyone.

Hoi Dave,
ad 42 Ctr-B works for me only 1 time (off and on again). A second time switching only works after scroling the chart a little.

Keyboard focus issue. The chart buttons steal focus after being shown.
Fixed. Next release you can do 42 Ctrl-B without problems

There is no reason why a power boat cannot use route optimizing with QtVlm. The difference is how you design your polars. Considerations such as comfort, safty and fuel consumption will play a part. One example, you may want to proceed at 10 kts straight into the wind at 10 kts windspeed, but slow down to 6 kts with 30 kts head wind.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Short intro on how to weather optimize a route using QtVlm

This requires a new QtVlm later than 3.2.8 p3, which as far as I can see has not been published yet, but I hope it will be soon.

1. Get yourself a grib file that covers (with some margin) the expected sailing area and expected sailing time-frame.

2. Load this file in QtVlm.

3. You need your boat polar diagram in order to get correct results, but for this intro we just go to Boat > Settings and pick one of the predefined polars.

4. Switch to Ocpn and right click on your route, select Routes/Tracks > Copy... and the QtVlm extended data option.

5. Switch to QtVlm and right click to select "Paste a route"

6. You now have the route ready in QtVlm, but we actually want to replace the planning route from O with a new routing,so select "Routes > Delete a route > ..." and the route you just pasted. Answer "no" to deleting the POI's. You are left with only the waypoints, which are now free to create a routing with.

7. Select "Routings > Create a routing". Here you need to set start and finish POI's plus the correct starting time. Your current boat position from Ocpn will have been updated in QtVlm so you can start from the boat if you want, or from the first wpt in your route. You then set the next wpt in your route as the finish POI for this routing. Hit OK and watch the routing happen.

8. Position the cursor just before the end of the new route, on the very last vertex before the end. Right click and select "Create a pivot changing the routing options". Now set the next wpt in your route as the new finish, and hit OK.

...repeat step 8 for all remaining wpts in your route.

10. Select "Routings > Edit a routing > ..." and pick the last routing in the menu. Check the "Convert to Route using this prefix" box and hit OK.

11. Put the cursor on the new route so it highlights, and right click to select "Copy route in kml format".

12. Switch to Ocpn and right click to select "Paste Track".

You now have the weather optimized route displayed in O, and you can make whatever changes you want to your planning to accommodate that.

(For further questions on how to use QtVlm head over to the QtVlm thread so we can keep this thread focused on Ocpn beta issues)

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Jesper..

Just downloaded v. 3.1.814 and have proceeded testing.

First thing I noticed is that the Show ENC text is not working in either mode.

The import route/track facility in the Route Manager only allows .GPX and not .KML files.

Testing the copy/paste route facility,I was unable to paste the file to any directory?
If the copy/paste ONLY works in conjunction with qtVlm,I would ask that it also be possible to ANY directory so the optimized route files can be directly copied to the Android phone directory.

Will be interesting to test once the new version of qtVlm is available.

Tore

Tore...
We can't reproduce any problem with this. Could you check your settings for vector charts and make sure that _texto is checked in the filter on the left?

ctrl-B followed by a pan hotkey results in continuous panning.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Hi
Appending a waypoint to a route created in a previous session of OCPN causes the program to crash. Appending a waypoint in a route created in the current session is fine.
Tested on 2 PC's running XP and Win7 32 bit.
Thanks
Brian
