Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1931 Released

"fine zoom using the CTRL key is no longer working" agreed, same with CNTL + / -.

Also NOAA BSB Region 02 Great Boars Head to Cutts Island Side A Right 13274-2.kap
(has a red line strike in the chart selector) has many 45 degree lines at any zoom. Is this normal? I select the chart adjacent and there are no 45 degree lines. Are these normal? If so, what are they for and what does the red tick mean? Thanks.

Hi Rick,

The red tick means :
This button shows that the chart is Skewed, meaning that north is not up on the chart.

more information can be found in the status bar paragraph in the user guide :

This is also occurring on version 3.3.1824.
The beta is currently coded to use the (left) "Alt" key instead of the "Ctrl" key for fine panning/zooming.
If this is a feature and not a bug, the documentation needs changing.
Over to you Dave.
Rotation of the chart with "[" or "]" still does not work i the general case. It's a no go o my Swedish qwerty key-board.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1931 Released

cagney, et al...

I'm back after a long passage with no Wifi. Trying to catch a few last minute items for the pending Beta, which is sorely needed.

Regarding the CTRL vs ALT modifier key for fine scale panning and zooming:

We switched to ALT, mainly because CTRL was needed with left and right arrow keys for STACK-UP and STACK-DOWN.

So, we can say that the logic now is that ALT is a signal for "fine-scale" screen operations.

Of course, we could reverse the logic. I recall a vigorous discussion of hotkeys at one time, but do not remember seeing the final committee report.

Is there any reason to change from the behaviour of the current 3.3.1931 Beta, other than the doc change implicit?

cagney:
I don't know about the Swedish keyboard's codes for "[" and "]".
Have a look at this site, and let me know what codes come up with the [] keys.
Keyboard Events and Codes

For US keyboard, I get (for "[") keycode 219 and char code 91.

Thanks
Dave

I don't think there is a reason to change it. We've all been distracted by the many directions and activities for Opencpn / Forum / Plugins etc. but I expect discussion on hotkeys will revive at some point.

Thanks Dave! Either Alt or CTRL works for me. I didn't realize this changed.

Did you see my post on uploading routes to Furuno GPS?

Same for Spanish lay-out.
And "]" is 221 and 93 here.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1931 Released

Dave

For a Swedish keyboard [ is the third alternative on the normal "8" key.
You print it by pressing the right Alt key also called AltGr, keycode 225.
Similar for ] and the "9" key.
I get this:
[ keycode 56 char code 91
] keycode 57 char code 93

The program in your link does not register any meta key events for these two characters.

More shortcut testing.
F6 never stops at "MAX", it just flashes momentarily, then back to 9.
F5 does not scroll through all the 4 options. It just seems to toggle between normal day mode and dusk mode.

That is on Linux/64. It may be related my local problem, described earlier, with F9. I'll check again for a graphic driver update etc.
I downloaded rasbats 3.3.20.28 to an XP box. No F5/6 problems.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1931 Released

Been out and about for a week.

on the last couple of days, closing has taken longer than usual and the days track has been lost on the next load. Dont know if this is because of the use of visitmy harbour chart stick going loose in the usb slot, but did not happen in earlier in the year. Have saved the log if required.

By the way thanks for allthe work you guys put in.
