In the data dropdown, try to switch from Rainfall to Wind...
The particle display does not make sense for all the types of data.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

New Win 3.3.2222.exe loaded fine for me. Particles works nicely (will get better control later hopefully) and I find it is great at helping to visualize wind discontinuities to picture what is happening in those areas.

The attached does not do justice, but it illustrates the discontinuity Light East wind against strong north wind, what happens? Where is it turbulent? How would it affect us? For how long? The reason it is so effective is it adds activity and some 3d effect.

.... as to the particles ..... I flatly find this phantastic!!! This is so good, I am really looking forward to see this in "real life" on board how all the wind turns will show up in reality... Just excellent!!! Not to forget, moving GRIBS work fine as well.....

Best regards,

Uwe

Thanks.. Found it, for some reason I didn't find that intuitive at all.... but is should be

Very nice to look at; not super useful though IMO it actually obscures information. But then I am old school and have been looking at GRIB files with feathered pointers for years and have a good feel for what they mean ( I don't like the barbs on the points of the arrows either - mainly because it is different to just about every other GRIB viewer; ZyGRIB excepted).

I can see it being useful in helping explain wind info to people less familiar with reading old school gribs though.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Hello Dave, hello All,

I installed version 332222. Everything seems OK.

I saw that in the Grib plugin, there are two new items (relating particle). Can you update the language file in Crowdin. Thank you in advance.

It's a shame that non-English versions, language files of the two permanent plugins, Grib and Dashboard, are not in the installer beta versions. Especially now that the 33222 seems almost usable as an almost stable version.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Hello All,

Just a question about the shortcut keys. Is the webpage opencpn.org ( Hot Keys and Shortcuts | Official OpenCPN Homepage ) up to date for the 3.3.2222 version?

Thank by advance. Gilletarom.

This is news to me.
Are they missing, or simply out-of-date?

Pavel?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Rick, et al...

In 3.3.2222
"He asks what the difference between
Default Tracking and Always Track is..."

The MMSI Properties dialog allows one to preset the tracking behaviour of a particular MMSI target, even if the target is not presently visible.

For instance, a particular ferry comes to your area 5 times daily. We don't want his track cluttering the screen. So, catch and write down his MMSI once. Then set that MMSI to either "ignore" or "never track". O will forever-after not track this target. There you have it...

Or, for whatever reason, you always want to track the "Queen Mary", even if you have no idea where she is, or even if you will see her at all. Preset it as you like.

Default tracking is what you get as in previous versions. Controlled by options->ships global setting, and individually in the AIS target list.

"Always" and "Never" override the setting in options->ships, and the per-target eye icon in the AIS target list

Hope this helps
Dave

Dave...
They are a few strings out of date. Sorry about that, will fix it ASAP. And I promise I make my days at least an hour longer immediately to avoid such miserable failures

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Installed and the S-63 stuff is working ok as well.
With respect to stability: last week we had the opportunity to run the program (3.3.2118) some 20 hours at sea and ok but one crash we were not able to reproduce.

Dave, as you are messing around with the MMSIs, one idea:
we had some ducting last week (see screenshot) and then it would be helpful if during a session static data for a MMSI are received once that those are used after a time-out. So that there is no need to wait until one is so lucky to receive the static data again.
This would help especially with Class B targets as well in situations where reception is not ideal.

Sorry Dave, I should have done more testing.

On first use of O33222, I thought the plugin file GRIB was absent because the display of the plugin window was in English.

I just checked and in the installation folder, there are three well mo files and they are dated yesterday.

I just re-O and now the display is in French.

I do not know why there has been this phenomenon of language change to several tests.

I just replaced the general file language for the O to comply with the file I just downloaded on Crowdin after updated Crowdin. But I did not change the language files dashboard and grib.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Hello Dave,

ASUS 1001 H, W7 Starter, O 332222.

I just tested the GRIB plugin using a GRIB file downloaded by zygrib. The area covered by this GRIB file area is very large.

This file is too large (1.845 MB) and I can not put it as an attachment. But, here's the copy of the email used:

area : 19N74W 69N74E
resol : 1.0
days : 8
hours : 6
meteo : GFS
WIND PRESS PRECIP CLOUD TEMP

Using the display of all of the area covered by this file, I get the following screen attached.

Note that two new items in the new display "particle" are checked.

It is almost impossible to move the plugin window.

Also, I watched what was from memory consumption: Approximately 700MB This is huge.
