I have had similar problems for a long time, also on *buntu 64.
As nobody else could repeat them I "gave up". So .. I'm not alone.
I cannot get into single mode by pressing F9, unless I keep the key pressed. This is the reverse problem that you have. I also have problems with F5 and F11.
What graphical card do you have?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Hello Thomas,

about the graphical card I found the following:

Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) (rev 0c)

Hope that is what you were asking for.

F5 gives me a darker display, a second time pushing it makes it even darker, but only for a second, then the display switches back to bright.

F11 gives me full screen - that seems to be ok.

Thank you in advance,

Robert

Strange.

I second that.
I copied the plugins from the previous build, and that works.
But I also found out that the dashboard plugin doesn't dock to the side of the window as it used to. Is this also by design ?

re:
"Today I went back to my boat and I got the stick VisitMyHarbour with all raster maps of Great Britain and Ireland.

This works but is very slow O 332 222. Difficult to change charts."

I just tried the VMH chart stick on my eeePC, 1 GByte Atom processor. A pretty slow netbook.

O is slow, but completely usable to me on this machine. It is best with OpenGL enabled, and raster chart compression and cache enabled as well.

Hard to know what you mean by slow. Can you give me some more idea?

Anyone else got one of these little netbooks to test?

Thanks
Dave

re:
"When preparing to update the wiki with the new MMSI properties, I had a crash. I'm sure I have tested this earlier without problems......"

Just to confirm our understanding, I can reproduce this if there is no item in the MMSI list actually selected and hi-lited when you right-click and select edit. This happens if you click on a blank part of the MMSI list.

If an MMSI item is selected (and hi-lit), then right-click->edit works OK.

Is this your experience? If so, the fix is easy.

Also, for the Wiki, I note that you can double-click on an MMSI item, and it goes directly to the edit dialog, without a context menu....

Thanks

re:
"On Windows Vista the selection of alternative tides database is forgotten after a restart. I am not sure if this is intentional - the manual does not indicate if the selection is temporary, so a natural expectation would be to have it preserved."

This works OK for me.

Do this:
1. Run O, and set an alternate tide dataset. Exit as normal.
2. Examine the OCPN config file. Look for

Code:
[TideCurrentDataSources]
tcds0=/usr/share/opencpn/tcdata/HARMONIC.IDX
You should see your new selection in this list.

3. Run O, and verify.

Thanks
Dave

Dave

Yes that's it, with one clarification.

This is correct if the cursor is on the selected object when you right-click. Otherwise still a crash.

Cheers!

Dave,

Yes, I can see the new selection in the config file, but not in the Tools->Charts->Tides&Currents dialog and if I click the Show Tides toolbar button, the standard tides database is activated. Not so with 3.2.2.

One more step, however: when I Add the new database, I Remove the original one at the same time, because I want just one dataset active.

Definitely 3.2.2 behaviour here is quite different to 3.3.2222, and I would think 3.2.2 is more natural to the user...

Thanks for looking at this!

Piotr

cagney...

OK, the MMSI Properties edit crash is now fixed in github.

Also, implemented your earlier idea. It is now possible to create and select truly empty chart groups. Just make a now group, any name, but do not add any directories to it. Then you can select that new group from the context menu. You will see only the gshhs background chart. Might be useful for small scale GRIB display....

Thanks

Thanks Dave!
All seems OK now!
The empty group was really Piotr's idea.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

PjotrC...

OK, thanks, I see the trouble. We have some code that tries to validate the user .IDX file selection on load. This code expects all T/C database files to live in the same directory. If that is not the case, it substitutes the default .IDX file instead.

That seems unreasonable. Some old code, and I forget the original idea of 3 years ago.....

Anyway, easy fix.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, I made a discovery in re-testing with the stick of VMH. Following your advice, I checked "OpenGL ON" but this time, I managed to check the "Texture Compression" box. In order to have access to, you must exit and return.

It seems that, indeed, with "Open GL ON" and "compression ON", it allows to have a correct speed.

Sorry for not having seen the thing immediately.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Dave, I just navigate several days with O 332222. No crash.

Note that it is possible to buy charts SHOM directly to S57 format. It is very expensive but it is possible. I bought one of these charts for a test. No problem with O 332 222.

Last summer, I had set up an AIS transceiver. With O322, I had my boat superimposed with an AIS target
It was boring.
Thanks to the new opportunity management MMSI I could mask my own AIS target. It's very good.
It just me an idea. Each start mode of OpenCPN, it would be nice if, during cruise, automatic test could be done with my own MMSI. If OpenCPN does not receive a warning message may be displayed.

Another idea. Each start of the sea, I launches VDR recorder. In a way, it is my logbook. But it happened to me several times forgetting to start VDR.
It would be nice if the O launch during cruising VDR recorder could start automatically at each departure.

dear Gilletarom,

can you give more info about this point? List of charts, where to buy, ...
because this surprises me - the HOs which are part of the regional ENC distribution groups should deliver just via the RENCSs - PRIMAR in the case of SHOM. Interesting..

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2222 Released

Hello Dave,

I made another test with O332222, VMH charts and GRIB plugin.

I did not choose the easiest to manage for O status:
- Since there are 800 cards in the raster stick VMH.
- Because I loaded a grib file wich cover a large area containing for each point of the grid, the maximum information.

Alone, without the stick VMH, the GRIB file is analyzed correctly, the data is displayed well (but I do not use "particle map", which see a previous post).
However, the analysis, the preparation of the display and the display itself, this GRIB file takes a lot of time.
I also suggested, with Jean-Pierre, a warning message about it could be displayed.

But if I use the stick VMH and also opens the GRIB file with the GRIB plugin, then OpenCPN332222 does not work at all. Everything is blocked. I have tried this several times. In this case, the PC is unusable !!!!

In one trial, OpenCPN crashed. But sending the crash report failed.

Best regards. Gilletarom.
