Dave,

this screenshot is from a standard 3.3.2316 for Windows, not the daily build.
We do run the latest Git version only on the ARM right now.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

stensmo, P_Dub,

Font handling has changed in latest source code, so your problems *may* be fixed in the next beta.
But...

- Is the text smaller than system UI text in the operating system itself?

- What font size is set in Options > User Interface > Fonts > Display?

- If you close OCPN, delete the fonts section from your config file, and open OCPN again, does this help?

Pavel, I'll do my best to explain.
Comparison:
I’ve used different Betas to try to find out when the increased memory allocation was introduced. The attached table is a indication of that. I would say it began in version Beta 2316. The last three rows are the same built but O is restarted between each test. Even though the lights are working first time I start the latter version it's only temporary.

A “strange” behaviour possible related to the huge memory allocation?:
When I zoom out in raster charts and do it until O switch to CM93 and then choose vector charts by a click on CM93 chart bar the following occurs:
When I zoom in one step O switch back to a raster chart. If I then by a click on the chart bar switch back to vector and zoom further in O switch again back to raster, this is repeated until I reach the smallest raster chart. If I now click back to vector and zoom out and then zoom in O is now remembering that I last was on a vector chart in that scale and keep the vector charts.
It could be this behaviour was introduced by the new zoom level slider, but it’s not verified. My value on the slider is 0.

The new menu was also introduced in this version but I can't find out any dependence on that even though the menu is frequently turned on and off due to my habit to use the Alt-Tab to switch between programs. Then the menu is viewed. (We should maybe activate it on Alt-key-up instead of key-down?)

How I build:
I pull from github opencpn to my master using VS command promt.
Then I switch to my branch “myocpn” and merge from master.
I CD “build” and run “cmake ..”
Using VC++ 2010 I first build Opencpn for “Release”
Then I build the “Package” and use the now created installation -.exe to install the new version.
Note: in branch “myocpn” I have some own adaptations mainly related to the Dashboard.

Thanks/ Håkan

is it possible Pdubs issues arise from Windows7 theme settings? His screenshot looks an awful lot like an XP look.

This setting is adjustable. Go to User Interface page. Under "Fonts" click the drop-down menu and select "Dialog." Then click "Choose Font" and adjust the size. In order to see the change, you need to click "OK" to exit the Options screen, then re-click on the Options icon in the toolbar.

I suspect that your problem is caused by a high pixel density on your monitor. This would especially be true for any retina displays. I've had the opposite problem (too large fonts) when I launch the portable OpenCPN on a computer with lower pixel density. So you need to tweak this setting to get the right size fonts in dialogs, menus, etc.

I found out how to fix the problem. If you enable "enable responsive graphics interface", the font in options is very small. When disabled, the font is readable. Very stange....

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Stensmo,

confirmed:
getting funny results with "responsive graphics" too

Win7, 32bit: font in the parameter section is smaller, but in the top row (Display, Connections..) standard.

Win8.1, 64 bit: just the other way around, parameters normal and categories small - and the Icon bar once closed the option menu is rendered bigger and blurred.

Bingo, you got it ! Just needed to uncheck the responsive graphics interface.
Thanks a lot for this finding. If anyone has the same problem, you can try it and readjust the font in the dialog part.
Best Regards.

I am not sure why I checked "enable responsive graphics interface". I guess it sounded good, I don't want a non responsive graphics interface

Perhaps this setting should be renamed and/or fixed?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Having a problem with texture compression caching.

New install.
Downloaded all RNCs for NewYork State.
Enabled OpenGL
Enabled Caching.
Forced Cache rebuild.

Crashed 10:min in (did not send dump).

Try to reproduce.

Forced cache rebuild
Completed OK
Panning and zooming is fast.

Try again.

Uninstalled charts
Clear texture cache
Re installed charts

Forced cache rebuild again and it completed OK.

Try again, but don't have time to wait.

Reduced installed charts to one (12300)

Works, but panning and zooming is slow.
On exit yellow and black message like:"waiting for compression thread to exit".

Can you reproduce in any reliable way? There must be a race conditions which rarely occurs?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Just curious, has anyone else noticed that O has had a massive increase in speed with Windows7? I have O 3.3.2316 installed on 3 different W7 devices (desktop, laptop and tablet) and all had very big increase in speed loading/panning vector charts.

Pretty sure it has to do with a recent update to W7, just wondering if others have seen this.

I can not reproduce the crash during the "rebuild texture cache".

But the "waiting for raster compression thread exit" problem is easy.

I only have chart 12300 and the Hi res basemap installed.

With openGL off there is no problem, everything works fairly smoothly.

With openGL and "texture compression with caching" zooming in and out has some long pauses and when I exit OpenCPN I get the "Waiting..."message.

I have tried Uninstalling the chart and Forcing a full database rebuild, but if OpenGl is on I seem to always get the "waiting..." message.

I will try re-installing OpenCPN.

Cheers,
JM.
