Yes, it happens both ways, whether the red ship icon is highlighted or not. It also happens with north up or with course up.

However, one other interesting thing: if the icon is highlighted, it loses its highlight after the first click of the zoom icons (+ or - magnifying glass).

[EDIT: FWIW, it also happens with all plugins disabled.]

RyhthmDoctor...

Well, of course it will happen if the "follow mode" is not enabled. O zooms with respect to the center of the screen, always. Ownship may or may not end up on the screen, depending on where it was when the zoom-in started.

I cannot see any problem like you report on my Dell 8.1 tablet. This is fundamental operation, and there has been no change is this code for years....

Is this new behaviour for you? 3.3.2410 and earlier, for example?

I know this may be difficult, but is there any way to get some pictures or video? Camera, for instance?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2424 Released

AIS target names seem to stubbornly remain black even though I changed the font to blue. The mouse-over message comes out OK in blue. Bug or operator error?

Using Win7 here.

Cheers, ....Erik.

The issue is that the "center" of zooming focus is very close to the upper left corner of the window. It's definitely not at the center of the screen.

I do not see the problem with 3.3.1606 or with 3.3.2410. They zoom with respect to the center of the screen (or wrt OwnShip), as I've always seen before.

Like I mentioned before, the other anomaly that I see is that follow mode is disabled as soon as I click a zoom icon. That did not happen with 1606 or 2410.

I might have been tempted to call this a fluke of the hardware, except I'm seeing it on both machines that currently have 2424 installed - a Win8-32bit tablet and a Win7-64bit desktop.

I'll try to find some software to capture onscreen video. That will take a little time, though.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2424 Released

Dave,

Here are two videos. I made the window small to reduce the file size.

You'll see that in the first video the center of zooming is close to the upper left corner of the window.

In the second video I moved the toolbar to the bottom of the window, and the center of zooming is close to the lower left corner.

I believe that the center of zooming is the point where I'm clicking the mouse - or close to it.

Although you say you have not changed the zooming algorithm in years, I suspect that something you did with the new code for "Enable Touchscreen interface" may be causing this problem. However, this is my speculation based on the behavior that I'm seeing - I do not have the coding skills to look at your source code. I know that in this mode, you're suppressing taps/clicks in the chart, but responding to taps/clicks in the toolbar. Could this have something to do with the issue?

1. Zoom does not work when the scrolls included grib plugin (wind with particles map)
smooth zooming is enabled
2. OpensPN drops or hangs when you exit the program when it is in grib plugin (wind with particles map)

Hmmm
No trouble with exact same configuration here on Win7

Please post the GRIB file, or a link to it.

Thanks

Yes, ZoomToCursor is set, and turning it off eliminates the problem on build 2424.

But ZoomToCursor is also set on build 1606 and 2410, and they still zoom properly when clicking the toolbar icons.

So as a workaround, I could turn off ZoomToCursor on 2424, but that turns off the very nice feature of being able to use a scroll wheel to zoom on a selected point (like is done with Google maps).

On my machines, it looks like this behavior has changed from 2410 to 2424.

If you turn on both ZoomToCursor and Enable Touchpad Interface, then click on the zoom icon, do you replicate my issue?

I can reproduce. Only when particles are displayed, only in NO GL mode
and only on my low powered W8.1
But I found it unstable :
Zooming with "+" or "-" or with the tool bar icons seems to always work.
Wheel zooming do not work each time. Sometime I can zoom in/out with the wheel. In this case I can exit O. Sometime wheel zooming do not work and in this case O hangs at exit until I close Grib or I zoom with a key.
The two problems seems to be linked.
I tried to decrease more the CPU usage
(GribOverlayFactory.cpp:1440 3 * time instead of 2 * time ) but if don't fix it

Also I detected another problem :
When particles displayed, the rollover texts ( for example AIS target or route ) are displayed but are never erased. This is mainly true in touch screen mode. If I tap on an AIS target to display the rollover text, I can't get rid of it until I close grib

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2424 Released

Dave,

There's another ZoomtoCursor issue in 2424, perhaps related to my previous one. In this video, I placed the mouse on OwnShip icon. (I'm using this a as a point of reference - I could place it over a buoy or any other landmark.) When I zoom in and out with the scroll wheel, the OwnShip creeps away. It appears that the point of reference for the zoom isn't exactly where the mouse is located.

This also happens in 2424 with "Enable Touchscreen Interface" disabled.

On prior versions the scroll wheel zooming works properly.

A lump of coal in my stocking...? O no longer allows 1996 CHS charts with "PR=NAD27"
I suppose this relates to Changelog item
440. Prevent loading BSB charts with invalid or unspecified positioning datum.

USED to have Click image for larger version

But nowClick image for larger version

They were all fine before. The chart image itself was appropriately shifted in opencpn to reflect correction to WGS 84 whatever the header said...
