Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Pavel..

I have been using the Route manager for the purpose of editing POI´s ever since the idea was created and never had such a problem. What you are telling me is that there has been a program change, making this no longer possible. OK, I understand that, but why did´nt anybody tell me?

I will now try your suggestion to first remove all the POI´s from the layers directory
and then try importing the required POI .gpx for editing and finally copy all my POI´s back again to the layers directory. But,surely there must be an easier way?

Tore...
There has been a lot of changes. And I really don't remember if importing a file that is already loaded as a layer was ever possible. If it was, I probably would personally consider it a bug.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Tore...

Thanks, now we are getting somewhere.

OCPN is functioning as designed. Specifically, GPX files loaded from the "layers" directory are "immutable".

From the help file:
"Layers are immutable, nothing can be changed. This could make them confusing, unless you are aware of the fact that they are .... layers!".

In your use case, the target GPX file is in the layers directory, so is loaded automatically when O starts. Importing the same GPX file, and then trying to edit it won't work. If it did, that would be a bug, since we would be editing an "immutable" object.

So, what you should do is temporarilly move the target GPX file OUT OF the layers directory, import and edit it, export, and then move it back to the layers directory.

And now I see that Pavel and I have answer simultaneously. Same answer.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Dave/Pavel..

Not as easy as that... I did exactly what you suggested,I created another sub-directory in the layers directory called ´layers backup´ and moved all my POI files there. OCPN,having re-started it TWICE,still displays all the POI files in the layers area of the Route manager and still unable to IMPORT any of the POI .gpx files from the new ´layers backup´directory???? What now??

A subdirectory of the "layers" directory is still in the "layers" directory, logically. Pick some directory that is not in the "layers" directory tree at all.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Pavel/Dave..

OK,having moved all my POI .gpx files to my EXTERNAL drive,I finally managed to clear all the files from the layers directory. I was now able to IMPORT f.ex. my BRAZIL POIS.gpx file from my external drive into the Route Manager for editing.

BUT, it is still NOT possible to EXPORT the highlighted files as the export key to the right in the Route manager is now greyed out and non-functional.

Using the EXPORT ALL VISIBLE at the bottom presumably refers to what is displayed on the current map and not what is contained in the Waypoints area of the Route manager?

Pavel/Dave..

As an obvious example attached... the Export all visible will only export the two POI´s shown on the map,but NOT all the POI´s listed in the waypoints area of the Route manager. Or what?? Very confusing...

Tore...

OCPN 3.2.2 does not support multiple selection on waypoint export.

Please use 3.3.604 for reporting in this thread. Instead of "Export Wpt..." you will see "Export selected..."

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Dave..

Thanks.. but I was advised NOT to use the latest version for serious work as yet owing to a number of unresolved bugs, but good to know for the future.
Quote:
Be warned, and I really mean it, that 3.3.604 has a few *severe bugs* in the GPX code. Do not use it on your "production" data.

Pavel
Please let me know when it is secure to use as I would hate to loose or disrupt any of my laboriously created POI´s.

In the meantime, back to my XML Editor...

N.B. I have created literally hundreds of POI´s around the world, all with the Route manager, until the 3.2.2 v. Surely, this new,´work around´ way of editing POI .gpx files could be given a better solution in future versions?

It must be possible to add a routine which queries the attempted import of a POI .gpx file already listed in the layers display as to whether you wish to edit the file, or, simply a special EDIT button.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

All...

Downloaded 3.3.604 in a separate directory for test purposes.
Editing worked fine but must remember also to EXPORT the edited POI files to the C:\ProgramData\opencpn\layers directory as the default loader, otherwise the POI´s will not show up on the map or in the Route manager´s layers area.

Although the Links Descriptions are entered in the POI, only the actual link is displayed in the normal working Route Manager. Perhaps correct in the next ver.?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Pavel/Dave..

For some unknown reason, none of my UK POI´s in the layers directory display their URL´s any more when clicking the POI icon on the map. Using my XML Editor, the links are correctly placed. Could you please download and check this UK POIS.gpx file for correctness?
(Only a few URL´s are entered)

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3t9...it?usp=sharing

Importing the UK POIS.gpx file into the Route manager´s WPT area, all the entered URL´s are displayed. See attached. Must be a program error??

Thanks....

Related to previous bug, probably. They look OK in my current unreleased build. You will see this in the next Beta.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Anxious waiting for the new Beta Version.
I am following the beta test and this threat with great interests and think a lot of issues seams to be solved. Time for a new beta release?
