OpenCPN display issue

Hi. I'm requesting assistance with a display issue. I use US East Coast charts and, through the O-charts plug-in, I also use Bahamas charts. The other day while using the program the display suddenly changed. US charts became unreadable. The screen became extremely dark with water showing as black, coastal features showing as dark blue and land showing as dark brown. The numbers and other symbols became so dark they are virtually unreadable. The Bahamas charts display changed as well although they are still usable. However, the screen is now darker and colors are different than they should be. It's usable for Bahamas route planning but I wouldn't want to use it to navigate because the screen is so dark. I tried changing the display from day to night but that has little effect. Thoughts, ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

Press C key (or click on the Moon and star icon in the toolbar) a few more times and behold what happens, the color palette cycles between day, dusk, night and dawn modes, so once is not enough (depending on which mode you are currently in) to return to day mode.
