Some XXXXhead had deleted the Edit instruction page from opencpn.org.
I just retrieved it from wayback time machine and recreated it.

The TOOLBAR & MENUBAR and child pages are migrated now. Next is the big section CHARTS.

Everything has been this way over many logins, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

No, nothing has changed. I wouldn't have expected it to change, because I've been able to select "Edit" mode all along.

Fabbian...

As a test, I made you temporarily an "Admin" on the site. This is exactly the same permissions set that Rick has.

Probably you will need to log off and back on for it to take effect.

Does it work now?

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

When I logged in to Dokuwiki this morning the OpenCPN User Manual page had some information under "Notes to Editors" which I hadn't seen before.

1. "This page “sidebar” is used by the Indexmenu Plugin to provide the “Indexmenu” navation menu on the left. DO NOT REMOVE IT OR CHANGE IT WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Thank you. - You can open it and see the code used at the top of the page"

When I click the "sidebar" link I see links to Developer Manual, Supplementary Hardware, Supplementary Software, and OpenCPN User Manual. The next line says

"! Index menu id conflict"

2. "{{indexmenu>pencpn#1|js#drkthemenavbarmsortnsor t}} <–Double %% or </nowiki> used at beginning and end to show exactly what is written without having the index menu created here in the page!"

(Is there some way in this forum to prevent text from being replaced by those stupid emoticons?)

I thought that might help with the problem that Dokuwiki keeps eating all the {{indexmenu_n>x}} strings I try to put in my pages. I tried putting %%{{indexmenu_n>13}}%% at the top of the Plugins page in the hope that it would appear as a comment which you could activate. Dokuwiki ate the string {{...}}, leaving me with %%%%.

This indexmenu issue is a big problem for me. I can't control where pages are shown in the sidebar and every page I edit loses the indexmenu string it originally had. There are 20 pages under TOOLBAR Buttons/Plugins (four under Included Plugins plus the Mail Servers page under Grib Weather and one under Utility Plugins). I've done about half of them. I'd like to be able to fit them into their proper place as I go.

3. "Each Namespace (Book) and Page has an index number to provide the correct order. You will see a code like this at the top of each page {{indexmenu_n>2}} In edit mode it can be changed to revise the namespace or page position."

My experience has been that every attempt to insert such a string at the top of a page or in the body of the page results in the string disappearing, even if it is surrounded by %%.

4. "Most of the pages you see here have been created by this technique. Currently most of them are empty, ready to receive the “Copy and Paste” from the original Drupal website. To create a new page when in “DW Edit” Dokuwiki Editor mode simply enter DW Edit mode in the parent page and add an Internal Link to the new page."

I haven't tried that. The new pages I've added have been done by right-clicking on the sidebar and selecting "New page here" from the popup menu. Maybe the internal link approach will be easier.

5. "When the link is shown in red, the page does not yet exist. If you click on the page, you will be prompted to create a new page, and it will be opened so that you can edit it and then save it. Pay attention to the path and where it is being saved"

When I create a new page the name I give it appears in the sidebar and gets translated to a file name by changing upper case letters to lower case and spaces to underscores. Those file names are different from the file names in the original manual.

Thanks, Dave. It works now. If you can change the permissions on the rich text editor so people who aren't Admins can use it let me know and I'll log off and on to test it for you.

(It takes a while to log off and back on. Just to be sure, of course, I had to log out of all the pages I had open and restart Firefox--clears my cookies. I was lucky to get past the captcha on the first try. The Dokuwiki captcha is easier.)

Maybe the indexmenu issue I've been having on Dokuwiki is also related to permissions. It would sure help if you could get that working.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Thanks guys, glad Fabbian has edit permissuons.
Fabbian I don't yet understand how you get "indexmenu_n... to be eaten. When I am in DW edit I can create and edit this first line quite easily.
When in CKD Edit mode I believe it is not accessible.
How are you wiping it out when you paste into the CKG Edit Window?
You should put your cursor Below the index menu code and the title!!!
Or you will overwrite the title, the sort order and will probably create or rename the page.

I don't want to redo all the sort order that has been done, so we need to figure out what is happening. Thanks.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Fabbian, I've looked at O-Dokuwiki and you've added a lot of plugins! That's great!

The order looks fine to me. Let me explain a little. When there are sub-pages (namespaces as Dokuwiki calls them ---> actually I think of them as directories or folders) the plugin called IndexMenu is sort all namespaces and then sorting all single pages. For a "Book" format this is not ideal, but we are using the standard Indexmenu so far and it is what we should expect.

What we want is for Namespaces and Pages to be sorted together and "interleaved" to maintain the Book / Chapter organization. I have found some snippets of php code that we might be able to insert into the IndexMenu php code to force it to interleave Namespaces and Pages. I was waiting to do this until we knew that Dokuwiki was the direction and to give me time to read up and understand what I was actually changing. I suppose that time has come now.

In summary, regarding the IndexMenu Sorting Code which is placed at the top of each page.

In DW Edit Mode
Code:
{{indexmenu_n>2}}

====== Scaling Charts ======

{{:opencpn:opencpn_user_manual:scin.png?nolink&32x32}}
{{:opencpn:opencpn_user_manual:scout.png?nolink&32x32}}\\

In CKG Edit Mode
(you should still see the indexmenu code)
Code:
{{indexmenu_n>2}}

Scaling Charts

 {two scaling icons}
When you paste into the CKG Edit Mode, make sure your cursor is set below the indexmenu code and the Title.

Thanks.

The Toolbar Menu looks fine to me right now. You must have recreated the sorting order.
The namespaces (with pages below) with be sorted at the top until I get a chance to add and test the necessary php for the IndexMenu plugin.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Fabbian,
I realized you were asking about inserting the sorting code {{indexmenu_n>??4}} for the Plugins documents that you created.

I am able to insert this code in either DW Edit mode or CKG Edit mode just above the Title. Then in CKG Edit mode I set the sorting code to "normal" font and then Save. It seems to work fine, except for the "namespaces" which I will try to fix.

The two namespaces that appear first plugins are
Included Plugins
Cruise Destinations
and further down in the outline Grib Weather.

These will be sorted interleaved I hope, when I apply the php code.

I appears you've become a master at creating new pages! Congratulations.

Nor do I. It's very frustrating that it happens.

I don't know.

Every time (except possibly the first, before I knew there was a problem) I have been very careful to put the cursor below the title. It doesn't matter. Any page I save has the indexmenu string stripped out.

I agree. As long as we have the original manual unchanged I can easily reconstruct the sort order for my pages if I can just get the indexmenu string working.

No, I'm having the same problem with any pages I save. I am pretty sure that I could open one of your pages in edit mode, then saved it without making any changes the indexmenu string would be removed. I'm reluctant to try it, though, because there are already enough pages needing repair.
