How did you do this? My device does not have a "hard" menu button.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Samsung TAB3 T310 Android 4.4.2

Installs ok
AIS/GPS via WiFi ok

- Measure mode as reported with yellow patch, but no data
- Context menu makes disapfailed in CaptureMouse
- No able to close AIS target list
- WxWidgets Debug Alert:
..Src/common/wincmn.cpp (3271) "!wxMouseCapture::IsInCaptureStack(this) failed in CaptureMouse
with AIS list open, Move Button window

Now we will have to bring S63 charts to this target architecture

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Was able to download from Starbucks this morning. Maybe that wireless access point yesterday blocked download... Security certificate for Drop Box site reported as bad. Proceeded anyway...

Although touchscreen function is enabled no mouse functions, so abandoned test. Privacy settings for O unrestricted.

Think I'll be using O in linux chroot for awhile... Display quality way superior. Everything works.

Good start, it's good to see the beginnings of O on androids natively.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

curl....

Re your crash:
Probably due to an unexpectedly long NMEA position sentence seen on some devices. Solution is understood, will be in next version.

You may continue basic functionality testing by disabling GPS in android settings dialog.

Thanks

There's a possibility gps in O will not work with built in devices providing positional rather than nmea data. Failed selecting Built-in gps. Works using network, tcp and GpsShare WIFI though...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Testers...

If you find that the toolbar icons are large and fuzzy, please check

options->display->advanced->Screen size.

It is a known design flaw in android that it is impossible to accurately calculate the on-screen pixel dimensions, in dots-per-inch. We try, using the recommended methods, but some devices just report the wrong number, or nothing at all.

The number for this option in OCPN Android ("OA") should be the physical dimension of the screen along its largest rectilinear axis. By example, for a nominal 7" tablet, I measure about 150 mm.

Thanks for the testing

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

- No texts on screen (Chart, for example depths etc no ship names neither on AIS)
- Vector charts : CM93 displays, pans and zoom swiftly - but not the texts
- S57 (French IENC) will show up at the chart piano but will not display
- quilting is enabled but piano shows rectangle(s)
- no selection of chart via piano
- S57 crashes and as this determines the viewport will have to erase the ini file

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

To be correct: soundings on CM are there. But no other text.

Icons from toolbar:
with the correct size for the screen (175mm length) the icons look blurry with exception of the AIS icons which are rendered with half of the height of the rest.
Putting in a (wrong) screensize of 350mm all icons have the same small and crispy size.

Character size of the status bar is so tiny that even a magnifier will not help.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

AIS target query:
cannot drag the pop-up window. Implies when the ok button is not visible being under the lower border of the screen there no way to close the window. Same as in the case of the AIS target list: there is no X to close the pop-up in such a case.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Great Start, nice work. I'm running on a Motorola Xoom Tablet w/o the cellular connection Android version 4.1.2. I have the other version with Verizon cell connection hardware. I also have the linuxdeploy version of OpenCPN running on both tablets. Which I use as my primary nav in the cockpit.

God News. Loads and runs fine, Loads both vector and raster charts. Internal GPS works with the same hack I needed for the linuxdeploy version. This tablet does not output NMEA sentences natively so I use GPS Share WiFi to create the NMEA on a localhost TCP connection and connect OpenCPN to that, works great.

Bad News. Cannot get the AIS data working through bluetooth. O recognizes the Bluetooth on the scan and seems to connect to it but no Ownship GPS location and no AIS targets. The data is getting to the tablet, I can use a Bluetooth monitor app to see the NMEA sentences, but I cannot see them in O.

CM93 charts do not seem to use anything but the highest layer (most zoomed out) When I pan to a place where I know there is a more detailed chart section, (Manzanillo, MX for example) it does not display the improved detail. Sometimes it shows blocky video with junk data in the blocks. I think I can upload a screenshot if that would be helpful. I can manually switch to raster charts at improved zoom just like in the regular version.

Best, Eric

Eric,

for me the CMs are working ok zooming in and out - larger and smaller scale cells are showing up.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Hubert,

I played around with the setting for when it zooms to a smaller scale chart and I can now get it to jump to the smaller scale at Manzanillo, but it does it much later than I would like and later than O running in Linux. The consequence is that you can never get to a place where the better detail looks like an inset in the coarser detail chart. I can only get the detailed chart when I am well zoomed into it.

BTW I also cannot get the text to show on the CM93 charts.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.409

Tried it on an ASUS TF700,
AIS, GPS, and other data (wind, depth etc) via Wifi works OK.
The same via BlueTooth, does not work,
ENC cards (Dutch) Can be selected in Settings screem but do not show up.
GPX file can be imported, but no icons.
(I made a directory UserIcons in the .opencpn dir)
Names of buoys: characters are OK, numbers are too large and only partly shown.

This trie-out iis already very promising!
