Wierd issues with CM93 chart display. Displayed in reverse, East to West! Flipped. Loading and zooming very slow now, with the progress indicater appearing to be stuck in a loop... Tapping on go to boat icon took me to a location probably 70 miles north of my actual position... GPS is functioning properly according to GPS Test.

Managing position of menu bar is flaky and no menus pop up to control what displays either.

GPS Share WIFI still necessary for GPS to function on tablets producing location rather than nmea data.
No gps/chart east-west flipped issue today. When I installed the first version, the charts displayed north-up. So, I assume the settings were for 'north up' which is the normal mode for me. But, after experiencing the above mentioned issues I poked around in the settings and discovered 'course up' was selected, apparently as the default. Just wondering what effect installing the new version will have if default settings vary from the original opencpn.conf file? Don't know how, but GPS Share WIFI could have been the problem. Doubt it is the GPS...

Also, loading charts appears to be faster. Set to CM 93maximum detail.

Acer Iconia 7 inch Android 4.1.2

I am getting all the bars and menus now.

Otherwise all fine, as it was before.

Good job!

Thanks,

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

For people getting oddities where there should be none:

Make sure that when you remove an earlier installation everything gets removed.

I say this because on our machine under the built-in uninstaller at least one shady folder remains. Unfortunately, this one folder contains some config etc filethings. Remove by hand and then swipe clean the cache.

This may solve some issues when going from one version to another.

Cheers,
b.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Slightly off topic:

Until we get native support for Android built-in compasses , is there a free compass app which outputs to NMEA via tcp/udp to be used with OpenCPN for Android?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

I tried in the emulator (I have no tablet or phone)

Initially (without an sdcard) the program asserts then aborts. Maybe this is only in the emulator?

After adding an empty sd card, I have no background map, just black.

When I go to disable items from the toolbar (should we have less toolbar icons by default for OA?) I get assert in menuitem.cpp several times. If I ignore this it seems to work.

The About screen... "The Open Source Chart Plotter/Navigator" takes up half the screen! Help tab does nothing.

In the options, the scroll windows work by dragging (android style) but the scrollbar itself is rather broken.

I realize these are bugs in wx-qt (not opencpn) and I am to blame here (from 6-8 months ago) but I am just making a list of issues since no one mentioned these maybe some one can confirm them on a real device?

It's kind of slow in the emulator to play with, maybe I should try compiling an x86 android version.. does anyone use x86 android devices?

Still no android tablet?

Folks, considering the contributions boat_alexandra makes in this forum we ought to find a way to round up an android tablet for him. Anyone have an extra they'd like to give to him?

I remember now, there is no opengl in the emulator.. so it's always black.

I get messages like this. Mentioned before... but I just click through them
see:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1811409

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...1&d=1430161678
the last one is a request to clear the cache. Since there's no other option, why is it asking?
and this for every start...

The assert menuitem.cpp has not shown up in this version yet.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Today I tested some for connectivity matters.

I could not get AOCPN talk to other devices via wifi. I tried this with Android being the AP and the devices connecting in.

Last time I tested with AOCPN plugging into wifi data source (AOCPN on the client side) and things worked fine.

So, imho, in future releases, it could be good to devote some thought to wifi inter-connectability. Maybe also BT if it is still used.

Imho, USB serial in signal via OTG (ftdi or Prolific) would be good to have too. Not that I think it makes plenty of sense on a mobile device but since there is still so much serial data stuff around (GPS and AIS to name only two) this could be a fine ability to have.

Gerhard...

More information, please ?

"Strange behavior of "Enable Toolbar auto-hide" for other systems than Android. Please check this."

Seems OK on linux and Windows for me, so far.

Thanks

Wrong...

"Managing position of menu bar is flaky and no menus pop up to control what displays either."

More info, please. Do you mean OCPN Toolbar, positioned by dragging the "grabber"?

Thanks
Dave

Gilletarom...

re:
First attempt:

Installation: Ok.
But the icon bar is completely unusable with my fingers. It really lacks in height and length.

Which "icon bar" do you refer to, please?

Thanks
Dave

See the screen copy. The icon bar, is left, top chart area. it is so small and the length is so little that it is impossible to "tap" with my thinger on one icon.

But I can use AO with the menu bar, that I acced with the 3dot command of android.

The only blocker bug I found, is that if you over zoom, there is a graphic bug. You need to restart OpenCPN to recover.
