Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Found an interesting pattern to the fade issue.

The lines are ALWAYS visible on what would be the physical top of the tablet's touchscreen (in my case, the side of the tablet with the LG logo), even when the tablet is rotated.

For instance, see the following;
- screen print 1 has the tablet in portrait mode, with the LG logo at the top, i.e. 000 position. Note the lines are visible in the upper third of the touchscreen.
- screen print 2 has the tablet in landscape mode, with logo rotated to 090 position. Note the lines are visible in the rightmost third of the touchscreen.
- screen print 3...portrait...with logo rotated to 180 position...the lines are visible in the bottom third of the touchscreen.
- screen print 4...landscape...with logo rotated to 270 position...the lines are visible in the leftmost third of the touchscreen.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

I get fading grid lines on my Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen with Android 5.0.2.

Fading chart outlines and light sectors are now OK

Sorry. Works in my chroot environment, but not in the android version of OpenCPN. Has nothing to do with your android version.

Maybe Dave can add this feature...

Wrong,

Yes, it also works that way in my linux chroot environment too, because the pinch zoom is done by the VNC terminal program and not by O. Thanks for clearing up the confusion, I thought this thread was about the new O for android alpha.

Your snipe is unwarranted. You think I'm intentionally trying to confuse matters here? I'm human and confusing features between the chroot and android OpenCPN's is purely coincidental. If enabling the pinch and zoom feature in the android version to include menus is both desirable and doable clearly there are users who'd like to see it added.

It's always interesting how different people read the same text with different perceptions of the writers intent.

I took it as a simple statement, no malice or ill will intended.

The organization of threads in the forum is difficult to follow at times.

As may be expected since the remark was not directed at you. It may also be because unlike ejs you may not be aware of the fact that about two years ago I developed the means for running OpenCPN on an android device in a linux chroot environment. He may believe incorrectly I was trying to plug for OpenCPN in a chroot environment, and just couldn't resist making the dig...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Dave,

Forgive me if this the wrong thread in which to post this suggestion, but I recall reading somewhere in these messages it was your preference to find a different way of handling the 'Expert' mode icons.

I came across an Accessibility option on my tablet that may provide some inspiration - please see attached for details.

From left to right, and down, screen prints have the following information;
- print #1 shows the current state of the OA expert mode icons, when expanded
- print #2 shows how to activate the Touch Assistant feature on my tablet
- print #3 shows the resulting Touch Assistant icon (note the semi-transparent button and stick figure icon in the bottom right portion of screen)
- prints #4 and #5 provide an example of the size, shape and context of the menu items made visible after pressing the Touch Assistant icon

It occurred to me while working with this option that the 'accessibility' features on our phones and tablets have already addressed many of the same questions we are now asking ourselves with respect to the size, shape, and function of icons that are intended to be used in less than ideal conditions.

The current approach of displaying the expert mode icons isn't too dissimilar from this already.

If not too late in the Dev cycle, I'd like to suggest we adopt something similar to this 'touch assistant' approach, i.e. the 'expert' mode icon (piano key or its facsimile) will sit idle on the OA form, be semi-transparent allowing the underlying chart and objects to be easily seen, can be repositioned on the form without interrupting OA functionality, and can be activated with a single press. When activated, the existing expert mode icons (and other key user functions) display as part of a series of cascading menu items.

Appreciate your insight and guidance on this suggestion.

If this is an idea to pursue, but not the proper forum, let me know and I will repost there.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Wrong,

No sniping, malice or ill will intended. I was just stating what I thought the thread was about in case it had detoured into a comparison of the two environments at some point. I'm in the Sea of Cortez on a dodgy internet connection and I admit I didn't go back through the thread to check whether it had detoured or not. Sorry.

Cheers, Eric

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Further observations on the "show grid" topic.

1) the same goes for AIS target outlines. See pics. On the top the outline is drawn, when on the bottom of the screen the outline dissappears.

2) Here is where it gets interesting. Both for the AIS targets and for the grid: the region where they show correctly is the physical top of the tablet, not the "rotated" top. All four orientations, i.e., the front camera side is good, the opposite is not.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Hi developers,

Thanks for the good work, although I have an issue to report.
Tablet: Asus transformer TF700.
I am using waypoints which I download from Nautin.nl, they also provide icons with them.
On my telephone, it is all working, icons in directory UserIcons and everything shows perfect.
On the ASUS it does not work, or in fact most of the time it does not work.
When does it work? Well I discovered that when I just had a look in the usericons directory with the file manager, and directly after it I start up OA, they are shown! If I don't open the directory in the file manager only the rounds are shown (indicating no icon available).

Whatś happening, what am I doing wrong, or what is my tablet doing wrong?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Hi Bdbcat, all community really appreciated what you are doing for all of us. there is a little problem with external BT gps. I have 2 tabletts (Pipo) on the T4, 6.5" running under 4.2.4, OpenCPN works with the BT gps without any trouble. On my M9pro runing under 4.4.2, I have had lot difficulties to set up the BT gps. Finally I got it as you can see on the first picture. The problem is OpenCpn cannot give the position, like if there is no gps. when I do check the setting, BT is present but as soon as I press "apply" button or the "ok" button, OpenCpn crashes and the application closes. This is a real shame, it is much easyer to use the bigger 10" screen of the M9 than the 6.5 of the T4. please could help. thanks in advance (sorry for my english)

HappySeagull...

I find this in my notes, and I think its yours....:

"Old complaint: Unlocked waypoints cannot be moved."

Can you amplify, please?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

I tried to use AO in nav condition but I was unable to get a track.
Each time I toggle tracking on, a track starts to be shown, but stop after a few seconds. I toggle again on, tracking starts then stops and so on...
