Re: OpenCPN for Mac

Hi All,

I removed an old copy and prefs, and installed the new .714. At startup the application pops up a dialogue indicating that no charts have been loaded, and then hangs while hammering one core at 98%-100%. The spinning beachball is present, and the "OK" button is highlighted blue but won't respond. The log is as follows:

Re: OpenCPN for Mac

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the quick response.

No joy - exactly the same thing. I deleted 714 and its pref and log files, then copied 715 into app folder. Again, the initial warranty box pops up, I dismiss it, then the warning pops up that there are no charts loaded, and the app hangs with a 99+% CPU load (in one core). It is not responsive, the beach ball spins, and only a force quit works. The log appears the same as before.

Perhaps there are other files that need deleting? I have had previous versions installed going back to the 1.x versions, and I had attempted to build my own copy, so maybe there is a compatibility problem? I assume that the app bundle is complete and self-referencing; traversing my PATH would find multiple versions of Wx, for instance.

Please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Re: OpenCPN for Mac

Hi Dave,

717 does the trick. It loads the charts (ENC, RNC, CM93, BSB, pilots) just fine. I have been away from the developments too long to comment on whether things work as intended, but at first pass it looks good.

The (very limited) menu, which includes the "Quit OpenCPN" command, is in French. IIRC the initial warning dialog box, although in English, had "Annular" instead of "Cancel" on the button. That is all that is noticeable at this point.

It receives GPS signals OK directly through a Prolific Serial-USB bridge chip. I'll try to check GPSD this week.

Thanks for all of the great work.

Re: OpenCPN for Mac

Hi Dave,

I installed gpsd v.2.95 via the port command (MacPorts). I selected libgps as the source, but I got the error message that libgps failed to load. I checked and I have a dynamic library named libgps.19.dylib in /opt/local/lib (the default for the port command).

I am guessing that the 717 build is not looking for the dylib in that location; either it should be included in the OpenCPN app bundle or it needs to be in a different location. Or I might change the location in the binary to the current one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Download OpenCPN 2.4.714 for IntelMac.

Can't install this on my MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) - Partially opens, then freezes in a "not responding" mode. What am I doing wrong? Thanks ... Steve

Carina...

We look for gpsd in

Code:
           load1 = _T("/opt/local/lib/libgps.19.dylib");
Could you post the logfile entries related to this failure to load?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

I restarted computer, ran gpsd, confirmed GPS and GPSd operation with cgps, then launched OpenCPN. Same result:

Carina....

This all works OK for me. The only thing different I see is the date and size of libgps on my system. See attached.

Re: OpenCPN for Mac

Dave-

Which version of GPSd are you using? v2.96 was released in March, so that is possible. Port installed 2.95 for me (unfortunately port is too often not current).

I am using Python 27. You probably compiled with Python 26 or 25. Could that be a problem?
