sailor1983..
You are receiving incomplete messages from the GPS. Could be various reasons. What's the used baud rate? Could it be you're trying to transmit to much to be handled by the baud rate 4800? Try to either minimize what's transmitted from the GPS or if possible increase the baud rate. If minimize I'd exclude GSV as a start.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hey,

unfortunately, since version 5.x my GPS is not working as requested. Corresponding issue 2679 has been published in FlySpray and has been declared as fixed in February.
However, the published version 5.2.4 is from last year.
Is there any plan to compile a new version on short notice? I would really appreciate it as I rely on OpenCpn for my anchor watch and my routing.

Thank you very much for your support.
Regards,
Ingo

Re: OpenCPN General

Ingo..
Fixes from this year are made to the code base in GitHub to be included in next OpenCPN release. There use to be a new release every spring but this year much of OpenCPN's voluntary work is directed to a new plugin for charts from O-Charts.org. Please be patient and I think a Beta test for next OCPN release will be available soon.

FlySpray #2679 you mentioned seems to related to Android. But you are talking about a version 5.2.4? Can you please explain some more what your problem is?

2679 is related to Navilock GPS (U-Box 8) on a Windows system, isn't it?

And Navilock-system are creating an unstable fix in opencpn (not in other programs). This is the case since release of 5.2. or 5.0. The versions before were stable but incorrect in number of used satellites (who cares?). Fix was OK, tracking OK, Watchdog OK.
So, it means for the released version tracking is interrupted for minutes and watchdog is activated every few seconds to minutes due to the missing fix. Unfortunately, 5.2.4 is not usable for Navilock-GPS. That's why I am hoping for a new Beta soon.

Re: OpenCPN General

Got a weird thing happening and don't see any reference to it in the manual.

On my desktop, OCPN shows the names and numbers of buoys and daymarks next to them. On my nav computer it doesn't, just shows the red or green symbol.

OCPN 5.2.0 on my desktop, 5.2.4 on my nav computer.
19" high def monitor on the desktop, 12" VGA on the nav computer.
Desktop is running Windows 10, nav comp is running W7.

In Vector Chart Display settings I've clicked Select All of the user standard objects on both computers.

I'm using NOAA ENCs of the US East Coast, same exact charts on both comps.

Is OCPN sensing the larger monitor and therefore displaying more info? Or sensing the higher res of the larger monitor? The larger monitor is connected to the desktop via VGA, not HDMI, so I don't see the difference being that.

Any insight as to why the difference? Or have I just missed a setting somewhere? (I believe I've made settings identical on both comps but...)

thanks!
