Re: OpenCPN General

I gave up on tablets and use windows surfaces..get cheap hardly used older ones which use less power..the tablets didn't allow radar plugins but haven't checked recently. All raster charts will load. Presumably not all vector types do.

Right, Androids are not suitable for the radar plugin. Basically since a wired IP connection is needed. A wifi router is normally not capable to handle the size of data packages used by the radar scanners.

If yes , make sure it and o-charts plugin are up-to-date.

Works great with O-charts for me.
Thanks for your response and sorry for not getting back sooner.
I managed to get it all working, by following your advice.
Much appreciated.

We have a windows PC in our nav station that’s on all the time and runs OpenCPN. It’s connected through Ethernet and the radar plug-in works great.

We use tablets running VNC to log into the PC and get radar on the tablets that way. Works great for us.

I need to mess around with windows RDC and multi logins to see if I can remote in without disturbing the screen on the host PC.

Thanks.

Good question.

Time and date, isn't this already available from GPS sentences?

Re: OpenCPN General

I tried different versions of the code, but I didn’t get the compass panel to get rid of the 2 pixel indent from the right and top edges.
What's the secret?

Also, a white line is noticed, a contour along the perimeter of the CPN window, especially in the two-canvas mode, where there is a satellite image on the right side of the hostl

Re: OpenCPN General

Somehow my OCPN 5.8.4 keeps on crashing after updating some plugins. While looking for a fix I downgraded to 5.6.2 and then (very bad idea) I ran a new PARALLEL installation of 5.8.4 (not knowing what was meant with "parallel"). End of the story ... problem not solved yet and I'd like to cancel /erase / annhilate /wipe off the "parallel istallation" in order to start from scratch with a clean installation.

How can I do that?

If I fisically delete the directory of the parallel installation, then at the next installation/upgrade the install program keeps aiming at the directory of the former parallel installation and does not allow me to browse or change the directory.

Help needed

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN General

Scud, Parallel installations are quite stable. You give no indication of OS, simply uninstall the program using the normal procedure for your OS. I would leave the parallel installation for now and focus on getting 5.8.4 working properly.

First try remove all plugins that are not internal, then make sure to update your chart database, all charts. Close opencpn and reopen and see if that helps. It that does not work close OpenCpN, rename your opencpn.ini or opencpn.conf to be opencpn.ini.old or opencpn.conf.old. Then restart OpenCPN and a new version will be created that should work better.

You will need to load new plugins that are intended for this version and setup your preferences in options.

Once you have upgraded to 5.8.4 I suggest not going back to 5.6.2 or you will need to replace all your plugins with the older versions and rerun the chart database rebuild.

Then simply uninstall 5.6.2.

Re: OpenCPN General

OK. Deleted parallel installation directory.
Deleted \local\opencpn\plugins directory.
Re-installed plugins one by one.

Opencpn 5.8.4 on win10 crashes at startup every time I enableor install Tactics.
For a blink of an eye a little rectangular windows pops up, showing messages of files loading fast and then opencpn crashes.

Any suggestion?

Re: OpenCPN General

Maybe tactics has a bug or is corrupted.
Report the details under Tactics Issues please, if you think it is a bug.

duly reported.
Since I'm here, thought about asking how to change the plugins icons order in the side bar. Is there a specific config file to edit? Now they show up the same way I install or update the plugins
