Re: OpenCPN General

A fellow named Patrick, from the sailing vessel "Deep Playa" has created a very useful Excel speadsheet comparing the many navigation software packages out there. His web site is S/V Deep Playa - Pearson 424 and the following address will bring up the spreadsheet as web document which can be downloaded.

I especially refer this to the Developers of OpenCPN for any ideas that it may give them (I've just started to use OpenCPN and very impressed with it - that it is free is awesome).

I have a question for the group- Does anyone know of a good source of charts that will work on OpenCPN for French Polynesia? Or for any of the North or South Pacific that are not covered by United States issued NOAA electronic charts, or the New Zealand issued electronic charts that cover a great deal of the South Pacific?

And, if anyone else wants to crosspost this elsewhere to get corrections or feedback on that spreadsheet, please feel free.

Thanks.

Joshua,
then it could possibly be my other even more cryptic favorite Try to rename the old config file to something else. If it helps, please post it so we can finally track down what's causing this rare crash...

Don't know which version you've been running before and the location may differ, search your disk for opencpn.ini and rename it to say opencpn.bak

I wonder if one can search for opencpn.ini in W7? It's hidden.
The location (on my W7 system) is C:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.ini

Hi

I canīt find any file named "opencpn.ini" not even on my other computer which is running the program perfectly under XP.??
The message I get before the program closes itself is "opencpn.exe has stoped functioning".

Re: OpenCPN General

Joshua,
then your method of looking for the file is certainly not working The opencpn.ini file is there, that's sure at least for the computer where the program is working...
The windows find files function is almost useless here as it doesn't search the system configuration folders by default. If you have something like Total Commander, it will find the file for you.
If you don't have anything like that, have a look at the "Location of Important Files. Log and config files." paragraph in Installing OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage and look for the file manually. As you still didn't tell us, which version of OpenCPN were you running before and to which version are you trying to upgrade, I can't point you to an exact location as it changed between versions.

Wish you luck in your hunt

You might want to read the docs?
See Installing OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage section:
Location of Important Files. Log and config files.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi
First Iīd like to say thanks for all support.

Is this the config file you are talking about? I have copied the first lines from the content of the file. It has no ini extension itīs just named opencpn. But the explanation says itīs a configfile.

"[ChartDirectories]
ChartDir1=C:\\CM93^
[Settings]
ConfigVersionString=Version 2.3.1 Build 2010-12-28
NavMessageShown=1
ShowDebugWindows=1"

Re: OpenCPN General

Bingo, that's it.
Next to it there is a logfile called opencpn.log which could contain some useful info about what's up at its end.
