If your route is a route indeed (not a track), then you might play with Departure Time in the Route Properties. Having it blank gives you the ETE, filling in Departure Time (mm/dd/yyy hh:mm, with an ENTER) gives you the ETA. For extended stopovers within the route you can enter "ETD=<timestamp>;" in Description of some intermediate Waypoint.

If your route is a GPX track, it needs to be converted to a route to erase fixed timestamps contained within.

Hi Piotr,

It is a route - opening the file shows the <rte> and <rtept>
<rtept lat="10.643352" lon="103.468727">
<time>2011-11-15T02:32:58Z</time>
<name>NM001</name>
<sym>diamond</sym>
<type>WPT</type>
<extensions>
<opencpnrop>A,1,1,0,1</opencpnrop>
</extensions>
</rtept>

Changing the <time></time> to null just gets replaced with the same time for all, and not route adjusted.

I cannot find a place to change the departure time - on XP, its the ETE column is not selectable and I cannot see another place to change it.

Again for ""ETD=<timestamp>;" in Description of some intermediate Waypoint.", I cannot find a place to achieve that. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place... its not in the Route Properties or Route Manager.

Try any of these (in 2.5.x) ... there's more in the Wiki...

Ah ha, I'm on version 2.1.0 Build 624a, but I have a good excuse. I downloaded 2.5 last month and installed it without problem. Two weeks ago I had a HDD failure which force me to revert to the September clone.

So duly reinstalled, OpenCPN continued to work fine but of course was running the previously archived copy and not the 2.5 I had installed after the archive was made: Mentally, I had ticked this off as upgraded.

I also forget where I left my glasses ... worryingly, I'm now approaching "that" age

Indeed this ">" tip is very handy, but not easy to guess.

Re: OpenCPN General

Just to confirm 2.5 solves the issue I was talking about before - OpenCPN now has the capability to display the ETA and time-stamp data (and more)
Thanks to the all the dedicated team, this program just goes from strength to strength.

Pjotr,

a question or proposal: shouldn't it be possible to open the waypoint property window by double clicking the waypoint entry in the route grid?

Even if you don't have any more problems, you can still drop by and say Hi from time to time.

Re: OpenCPN General

I did want to drop a line to say that I have been using OpenCPN for a while now and unfortunately have not had one problem. I used SeaClear and my older version of Capn in the past but now use OpenCPN exclusively. I have followed this thread and others just in case there is an issue but so far so good. Sorry to report only good news. Chuck

Hi Dan,

It's my intention to be around more over the next 12 months: The previous domestic emergency which led to my absence regrettably did not have a happy ending. Much change has happened since then and I am back playing with boats again.

Thanks for your invite.

Rhoel.

Currently only on Windows XP, though I have run oCPN on Ubuntu. I use a GPS puck imported from Australia. I will be looking at a tablet solution later next year as I get out on the water more to the local islands.

'OWN SHIP' MOVED FROM BRAZIL TO SAVANNAH?

Dave..

Strangely,this morning my 'own ship' has mysteriously moved to the Savannah River from her base in Costa Verde,Brazil.

My 'own ship' icon is a motor yacht.

What happened?

Tore

Tore,
aren't you feeding OpenCPN with some recorded NMEA data?
