Re: OpenCPN General

OK, I tried this. Here's my problem. have converted a chart from a png and it converted fine to a kap. I put it in the chart directory, reloaded the directory and it does not show up as available. All i get are the NOAA charts for the area.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hard to help without seeing the chart... You can try to put just this one to a separate folder and in the toolbox make it the only chart directory (and turn the chart outlines on - then you should see a red rectangle framing the area covered by the chart) If it will still be a no go, rename it to .doc and post here so we can have a look at it.

Re: OpenCPN General

Well I played with this some more and finally have it working. It seems the calibration was off so it showed in the wrong place. Thanks for the help. Chuck

Re: OpenCPN General

If I want to look at a specific chart and I have several of the same area of different dates/versions I sometimes find it quicker to remove all charts in "tools->charts" and then place just the one chart back I want to look at, and rebuild the chart database.

Sometimes this is quicker if I don't know exactly which area the chart is covering.

Doing it this way you will see that chart only so there is no ambiguity about which chart you are looking at.

Re: OpenCPN General

jonasaberg...

Have you tried using "chart groups" for this function?
May be faster than rebuilding the database.

Re: OpenCPN General

J, that's a thought. I do this for planning purposes so the chart I need might be no where near a current chart. But I hadn't thought about using chart groups as Dave mentions. Something else for me to play with. Chuck

To temporarily get a chart out of your face...there's also the "Remove from Quilt" option. Just right-click the chart's button in the chart bar.

added..of course quilting is "On" for this.

Re: OpenCPN General

I may have solved my BSOD problem. After days on end fighting this problem, I ran across a forum on the problem that discussed running a program to unclutter the registry. The program was called Free Window Registry Repair for anyone else who is experiencing this. I found it on download.cnet.com. I've been running OCPN for several days without a crash. Hope I didn't jinx myself.

Re: OpenCPN General

I have been comparing long/lat betwixt OCPN and GE. Seems GE's doesn't cooincide with OCPN. I believe OCPN because it cooincides with my GPS. Sometimes GE is way off. I dont think I would trust GE for finding location.

and writes:

I have just update my opencpn to ver.3.0, but the chart text display is so big, how to make it display smaller?
one more thing:I have just connect AIS to opencpn, and the ship's heading can not be displayed, so how to make it display without connect to a gyrocompass or GPS?
Thanks a lot!

xiurong...
Welcome to the forum.
Open the toolbox, on the User Interface tab, in Font Options, select ChartTexts and click the Choose Font... button bellow it. Then select a font that suites your personal liking.

Re: OpenCPN General

Dave/Thomas

I have encountered a BIG problem with OCPN lately. I have tried several of the latest versions,
all with the same result, presently on v. 3.2.0

The problem is,the oval map buttons at the bottom of the screen are no longer visible and I am unable to select charts as CM93 is not showing.

Any help gratefully accepted...

Tore

Re: OpenCPN General

As a last resort I uninstalled OCPN saving all the important files and reinstalled v. 3.2.

All is now normal again thanks to Paulīs suggestion but have no idea what caused this strange error.

Re: OpenCPN General

> I have recently installed OpenCPN 3.0.2 and am very impressed with its wide range of features, a very nice product. However I have a problem in uploading routes to a Furuno GP-32 GPS. I note that there has been some post on this topic previously and taking their advice have installed GPSU.

Now I can upload waypoint data but not route details.

Checking the GPSU log I notice that the route no. field in the $GPRTE sentence has three digits not the two specified in the Furuno documentation.

I have a small app that takes the .gpx output to produce a text file in the correct format which is then uploaded to the GP32 via Hyper Terminal.

The best solution would be to incorporate a driver for the GP-32 as a plug-in to OpenCPN
