OpenCPN Menu Bar Display

I have OpenCPN version 4.8.6 installed on a 15” Windows 7 laptop and also on a 15” Macbook. The screen display on both is more or less the same, but in particular the menu strip starts in the top left hand corner across to the center of the screen or thereabouts. Easily readable and operable as one would expect.

However, I have just bought a 12” MS Surface Pro to use on my boat and installed the same version of OpenCPN, but on this device the menu bar is quite different. It is much smaller and almost unusable to use by touch screen and just about usable with a mouse, but not on a rolling boat.

I wouldn't have thought that a 2" screen size difference would make that much difference and changing the devices display resolution doesn't alter the program in anyway, so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear.
