sredna, thanks for following up - you're on 1.3.6 right?

Feel free to add a bug for this (here: SourceForge.net: OpenCPN: Bugs also please include your active locale, for completeness. The bug entry makes it easier for tracking to fix.

This one could be easy or not so, but definitely needs to be fixed.

Thanks!

Done: SourceForge.net: OpenCPN: Detail: 2933064 - CM93 charts does not load with non-ascii characters in chart

Thanks for taking interrest

Btw, openCPN rocks on the netbook, for some reason the display setup seems to work much better there :-) Only glitch so far is the fact that the toolbox dialog is a few pixels too high for the 1024x640 display (with an 20px panel in the bottom).

I can add, that the problem with non-ascii characters in folder names was non-existent before the internationalization project. It came up with the first internationalization-version. So it must be rather easy to locate the problem, however might not be easy to correct it :-). And it's no big deal, possibly a better error message on the chart-screen when not locating any maps due to invalid folder-name.

I posted this query on the 1.3.6 release thread...but since I'm using OpenCPN on an HP Netbook, I thought I'd plead for some guidance here as well:

Waypoints not uploading
Running XP Pro and 1.3.6

When running 1.3.2, I could upload waypoints to my Garmin 128 GPS...altho' I found 1.3.2 would only upload some of the waypoints and it took several uploads for them all to transfer.

Now using same command and the same dialog box to show the same uploading sequence, no waypoints are transferred to the Garmin. All the Garmin 'interface' choices have been tried. Both deactivated and activated route waypoints have been tried. Not one waypoint has been successfully transferred. There are no more setting choices on the Garmin nor were any needed with 1.3.2.

Suggestions, anyone? What might I try next?

Jack

Jack,

This could be one of those nitty-gritty technical questions -- so you may need to wait until Dave get back from his cruise before it can be addressed.

Still hoping for a suggestion from a OpenCPN user or a member of the team...

Are there any relevant messages in the log? Ceteribus paribus, this must be due to the new version. I suggest you downgrade for the time being if this is essential functionality for you..

I just found openCPN now, doing random browsing if the forums, and got so excited that I had to join in.

The Norwegian government recently put all maps online, free of charge with nearly any restrictions. I will spend some time and getting this to work together.

This will work with the AIS I just bought as well. Can't wait for an ARM netbook

Euro Cruiser, I'm looking at the code - I'm a bit less familiar with this area but may be able to help in Dave's absence. At least we can start the process. The code has changed some since 1.3.2.

So we're clear:

- all waypoints you want to send are in a route
- your Garmin is set for NMEA @ 4800 baud
- you right-click on the route and select the "Send to GPS" menu item
- you select the correct COM port and click the "Send" button
- the progress dialog shows all transferring (may be too fast to see)
- the dialog disappears

...but the waypoints and route "00" do not show on the gps

All of this is correct?

Mark

Hi Draagedo:
Were did you find them?

If it is the online images here:
Kart2.kystverket.no - Adaptive - 1.7.0.1053

unfortunatelly, as far as I understand, they can not be downloaded and used in OpenCPN. It would be great if they could...

Same maps, but different site:

First some background information (in Norwegian):
Populære karttjenester : Statens kartverk

Cache-tjenester : Statens kartverk

Then an actual map http://openwms.statkart.no/skwms1/wm...NSPARENT=FALSE

You can change resolution by changing the width and height field, but these must form a similar "box" as the BBOX parameter. The BBOX parameter decides where in the world you are, I have not deciphered them yet, but it is probably a pretty straight forward thing from wgs84. This is from a cache service. If there is an easy way of importing google maps in openCPN you can pretty much use the same functions as it is actually a WMS service.

You get .png images, but I understand that you can import them into openCPN.

It should be pretty straight forward, but I have not had any spare time today to get it to work

You can actually get any kind of map of Norway from this service, not just nautical ones...

Thanks! I'll check it out this evening.
