Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

Uwe,

try to use the RaspiOS based on Bookmark. Can be installed direct from the internet.

Add Flatpak OpenCPN. And if you like the SignalK server.

Do the latest updates and the kernel update.

It works here perfect and fast. After you have installed RaspiOS it is imported to look with Gparted and stretch the partition to make more room on the SD or usbstick.

If it works here very well, then it also must worked indentical at your RPI.

Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

Hi Bram,

thanks a lot, I did all this (using Flatpack, etc).

Everything works fine here, I am working from a SSD with 1 TB of data available, so, no problem. There are however problems with Wayland and so I switched back to X11 and it works like a breeze... .

Thank you anyway for your advice. Maybe you can give me some further hints, what are you doing with the sound? I am using Watchdog and am relying on the alarms. At the moment I am not quite sure how to solve this best.

Many thanks, and best regards,

Uwe

Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

Hi Uwe,

good to know that it works now well. Then the sound:

On the boat and here at home I have monitor with speakers build in.

Sound can also be transitted via the HDMi cable. Otherwise you need a speaker set for analog sound.

Sound via the monitor it very nice for playing music but also with the alarms..

You only have to switch the setting sound (right top corner icon) right mouse key to HDMI.

Gruss,

Bram

Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

Here another installation setup I forgot to mention. Linux is a multuser system. Connections are not available for every user. You need this if you use serial input with usb GPS mouse.

Therefore you have to activate the use of serial for a specific user. You ?

sudo usermod -a -G dialout (name of the user) uwe ?

Two finger zoom gesture is not working in OpenCPN.
Bookworm, wxwidgets 3.2, .deb packaged OpenCPN 5.8.4.
Running x11 instead of Wayland.

Bram,
what do you think this command does? And why should it help with sound configuration or output?

Hi Blacksea,

this command activate the serial use for a specific user. This has to do with the multiuser setup in Linux where not every user is allowed to use certain functions. One of this functions is the use of serial.

It has nothing to do with the sound configuration.

With sound you have the choice between analog (however this option is no longer available on the RPI5) or sound via the HDMI cable to a monitor with sound buildin. Works well in combination with the OpenCPN alarm options. But also plays music on board !

That is also possible and is recommended for the RPI5, because an analog sound connector is no longer on the RPI5 board. Most modern monitors, also these small ones support hdmi sound.

Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

I have an issue with bookworm on rpi 4 where the vertical menu is located to far from the left border about a third of the way into the chart. I have turned off wayland and reinstalled opencpn but it is still putting the tool bar in the wrong place.

I also have a rpi 5 and with wayland turned off, everything works...No errors!

I have seen this before. Simply move the vertical menu as a window. And then it clicks to the left side of the screen.

Clicking on the top with the right mouse button, hold en move the menu bar to the left.

Bram

So it is solved here.

Re: OpenCPN on Rpi bookworm

Just tested the latest version of the RaspiOS (5-12) based on Debian Bookmark.

Installed Flatpak OpenCPN 5.8.4-2.

Again there are issues with the pianobar right. Wich disappear after touching the screen.

Using the Dashboard it works but the window stays fixed in the middle of the screen and cannot be moved.

With this latest version now the two finger zooming in- and out works on my HDMI touchscreen.
