OPENCPN update chart database programmatically

Hello! From the OpenCPN website I was reffered to this forum to ask questions about the software, I'm trying to make a simple program to automatically update the charts in my OpenCPN software. I already have written programs to download and transport the files to the computer my Opencpn is running on, but I can't figure out how to automatically update the database.

What I need to do is call the function in settings > Charts > Scan charts and update database. Does anyone here know how I would achieve this? I've read through some of the plugin documentation already, and some of the code base itself but I don't have much time and couldn't figure it out.

What about checking and trying to understand how the plugin chartdldr_pi works? I am sure the community will honor your enhancements to this plugin.
