Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

The APB is used to transmit data to an auto pilot. I think the issue solved was to not transmit Auto pilot messages if the position is doubtful or not present. That would be to fool the AP. How can we follow a route using the auto pilot if there is no position?

In 5.9.2 if there is a GPS source, yes the APB sentence is transmitted.

Without the GPS no APB. Using 5.8.4 the APB sentence is transmitted even if a GPS source is not present.
I guess you can blame me for raising this and this

Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

Nightmare installing O 5.9.2 on Raspi5, maybe my fault, because I'm not familiar with hell Debian.
I've noticed that has been two version in just two days of 5.9.2, or at least the system has told me that there was an update of such version.

I did an install update on top of previous one.
at home there was no problem I did not work so much with it.

when carried on board just on click on O icon and blue screen and RP best to say RIP.
started again the RP and no data because the opencpn.conf was overwritten blank.

all work done to be done again, at least could be restored some with the recovering of installation in the settings menu, but again all connections and plugins to install.
when everything was done rebooted computer and again click on the O icon and blue screen.
in the step before I saved quickly the conf file but I did a shi... and saved log file instead.

again all work to be done restored configuration, applied again the connections, charts, plugins, etc. this time closed ocpn and saved the correct conf file.

restored computer and again blue screen but copying the conf file in place I was able to recover everything that time, but suspecting something because blue screens were quite often.

taken the decision that had to be done before I guess:

Code:
sudo apt autoremove opencpn
at last I knew that Secure net was blocking mumin.crabdance.com, so I disable with the ISP the mobile line feature and could do the correct update with the .sh batch in previous post.

I placed the saved conf file in the proper folder, because the existing one was blank too again.
now it seems that the system is working stable and done some reboots and still opening OCPN properly.

I'll follow up the RasPi to check if working and next time there would be an update I'll do an uninstall first.

Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

Ok, I will use another way of identifying the legs of a route.

But I can still activate the route, even without a GPS source.

Can "Plugin_Active_Leg_Info" be used in this state? Need to test tomorrow.

Previously it used the last known position of the boat and would maintain a heading with the autopilot. Now??? Does the autopilot alarm when no APB is received?

Rasbats....
"Does the autopilot alarm when no APB is received?"

Depends. Most modern AP's will trip offline, possibly with an audio alarm. Some very old ones do not, as far as we can tell.

To me, this is a clear safety issue. An AP that claims to be following a route when no route instructions are being received seems, well, just wrong.

The plugin message_id "OCPN_RTE_ACTIVATED" works without a GPS source but "Plugin_Active_Leg_Info" does not carry any data. Issue raised.

Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

Raspberry Pi 5 - Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm - Official touchscreen - Wayland and X11 - Installed from Debian (flatpak not tested yet).

Fixed:

- OpenGL
- Scroll in initial setup
- Scroll in connections tab
- Right click in charts

Not fixed:

- 2-fingers zoom
- Chart Panel Options size (see screenshot)

New issues:

- Right click menu items just work randomly using touchscreen under Wayland. It always works with the mouse. It works in X11.

Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

The Opencpn version latest beta 5.9.2-3works very well in the Flatpak version. Tested on the RaspiOS (Bookworm),,Ubuntu NobleM and Fedora 40 versions on the RPI 4 and5 and also on the AMD64.LinuxMint and Ubuntu NobleM..

The only problem was that the latest beta version did not install because of the former beta version.

You have to remove the former flatpak beta version first.

Otherwise you get the message "allredy installed"..

See no upgrade pathfotthe beta versions..

With the Ubuntu version on the RPI the two finger command worked with the touch screen on-board system.

Re: OpenCPN v5.9.2 Beta test released

Sailoog....
It now begins to look like OpenCPN v5.9 (and so v5.10) will not run correctly under Wayland on Raspian/12, the current release.
The workaround is to use raspi-config to modify the RPi configuration, and to use x11 instead of Wayland.
The effect of using x11 on other RPi apps is not known, but we do know that OpenCPN is not the only GUI-centric application to experience problems with Wayland on RPi.

We hope to address the problem more fully in a subsequent OpenCPN Release. Many parts are in flux now, for example in the wxWidgets support of Wayland, and Wayland itself. We hope the dust will settle soon.

Thanks
Dave

"Cannot use O-charts"

Temporary fix:
$ sudo apt install opencpn-sglock-amd64

Sorry for the omission.
