I don't think that the first gdk message means much, but I cold be wrong!

Bottom line, start OpenCPN like this:
Code:
$padsp opencpn
and you will get an OSS wrapper that make all sounds related features work.

No 3 F6 works fine for me.Close down and rename opencpn.config. On start a new will be created. Try F6 again.

Thomas
OK,
No. 1 is no biggie, cosmetic.

No. 3 - removed .opencpn/opencpn.conf and tried again - no joy and no messages. As I wrote this is a fresh install of Ubuntu with fresh OpenCPN. There is no trash from old installs around.

No. 2 - tried the padsp wrapper but no joy. Abort with same error. Had another app streaming audio in parallel though, so will wait another 30 minutes to test again (hint: a 'test sound' button next to 'play bells' would be handy...).

Thank you for fast response.

Marius

UPDATE:
OpenCPN started with padsp wrapper aborted on sound play attempt. This time no other sound apps running. Same error message as previously reported.

mrm....

You can test sounds right now in toolbox->AIS->Test Alert Sound.....
Uses the same wxWidgets classes as the bells.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

I am using OpenCPN on 3 computers. Since build 712 it works well on 2.
The issue of freezing remained on the 3rd also with v2.5.

Computer is a Twister Alubox VIA chipset 1.0 gHz running XP SP3. Not particularly strong but is ok for any application I am using including MaxSea.

With OpenCPN I have these moments of prolonged freezing. Screen is fixed, I see this hourglass and during a minute or more nothing seems to happen. Can't say anything smart about when this happens. It also happens when browsing through the different parts of a gribfile but it also during sheer displaying map, own position and ais targets. There normally is nothing else significant running, just XP, a virtual comport-splitter and OpenCPN.

GPS: Furuno GP33, Ais: Nasa AIS-engine, both connected via physical RS232 comports (with the GPS signal splitted over several virtual comports).

Is it useful to present screen prints and (parts of) the log? Is there anything else I can deliver?

Greatful and hopeful,
Len

I'm a chart newbie. After installing OPNCPN, I need charts.. do I need to get them from a chart provider at cost? Or are there free charts out there?

The moderators don't like it when so called illegal sources are being discussed and I can see the point in that.
Send me a PM.

Cheers!

Depends where you are. In the USA all charts are available to download from NOAA free of charge. In Canada they are only available to buy.

I can confirm a problem on the 2.5.0 32 bit deb on Ubuntu 10.10.
I was running opencpn through the ddd debugger with "Play ship bells" on. On the hour, there was not a crash but an exit, with the same message as you quoted earlier.
I then compiled my own package on a 10.10 and tested on the following half-hour. No problem.
Please test this package http://www.opencpn.org/sites/default...5.0-2_i386.deb, and report back.

I have no problem with F6 dimming on either.....

Check the bottom link in my signature for links to quite a few legally free charts.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

Hi,

I'm sync'ing the DebianGIS build patches for 2.5.0.

not sure if this is desired for the mainline, but for us a small patch remains needed for TinyXML if you use the system's version:

Code:
diff --git a/include/gpxdocument.h b/include/gpxdocument.h
index 949865d..d60bc83 100644
--- a/include/gpxdocument.h
+++ b/include/gpxdocument.h
@@ -29,7 +29,9 @@

 #include <wx/wx.h>
 #include <tinyxml.h>
+#ifndef TIXML_USE_STL
 #include <tinystr.h>
+#endif
 #include <stdio.h>

 const wxString GpxxColorNames[] = { _("Black"), _("DarkRed"), _("DarkGreen"), _("DarkYellow"), _("DarkBlue"), _("DarkMagenta"), _("DarkCyan"), _("LightGray"), _("DarkGray"), _("Red"), _("Green"), _("Yellow"), _("Blue"), _("Magenta"), _("Cyan"), _("White") };//The last color defined by Garmin is transparent - we ignore it

cheers,
Hamish

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.5 Release

hi,

Can't install this new release (debian release) on a 32bits Ubuntu 11.04
It seems several french have the same problem.

"The paquet is bad quality"
If I choose "ignore and install" then I have a new message:
"Error impossible to treat"
