Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Did anyone has ever thought of creating a part or plugin for producing an Estimated time to destination or best time of departing a place or crossing an area?
Regards

Estimated time to destination ( ETA) is already implemenyed. -> create a route to your destination and activate it, and you will see ETA in the route box on the display.

Does it take the current into consideration?

Frank,

did you take into account that raster charts are pre-processed when used the first time under 4.0?
Depending on the number of charts and the machine used this can take a lot of time and OpenCPN seems not to respond.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Is there a way to move chart cache and other OpenCPN data to another location (SSD) ?

Thanks,
JM.

JM...
I suppose you are still on Linux...
Code:
mv ~/.opencpn/raster_texture_cache /wherever
ln -s /wherever/raster_texture_cache ~/.opencpn/raster_texture_cache

What I meant is one like the nobeltec programm, using current and tide, when available. With this you can have a much better approach, specially for craft of low speed.
See the attach picture.

Keep in mind, different machines may use incompatible caches as the compressed format can be one of 3 possible.

I didn't think the cache was enabled by default.

Try the weather routing plugin.

Try the weather routing plugin.[/QUOTE]

Well it is good up to a certain point, but not quite what it is or should be rquired. You must have something that will take into account the current, when the arrows predictions are available in tidal rivers mainly. We are working on that at the moment, but only for a given place in particular.

P Dub re weather_routing

Weather_routing uses current from Climatology which are known large scale currents, such as Gulf Stream, however it does not use Tidal currents. I am unaware of such a development, but have suggested that tidal current could possibly be transformed to a grib format which might make it easier to include in the tidal current calculations. I am sure Sean would welcome any patch of such nature and review and improve it.

Bonsoir,

Here are the same charts on 3.3.2 and 4.0.0, same PC, same OS...

Other: I have put a link to this chart:

http://download.tuxfamily.org/xinuto...O_PARNAIBA.KAP

It come from Official Brasil Hydrographic service (free download). You can download (small, 1.5Mo) and try it. For me, it appear only with 3.x version. No detected with 4.x (user config unchanged).

Frank...
The problem with the Brasilian KAP is obvious, the datum is empty:
Code:
KNP/SC=1159563,GD=,PR=Mercator,PP=0.000000,PI=0.000000,SK=0.000000,TA=90.000000
It is a bug in OpenCPN 4.0 - refer to FS#1683 : Forgotten GD case

Are you sure the other charts showing the distortion are Brazilian? Which ones and from where can I download them? Seem missing from my very recent set of their charts...

Thanks

Pavel

OK Pavel,
I make a selection of example charts with trouble and put a link to download in 24/48H.
Thanks

Frank...
Many thanks. When you find a problematic chart, first of all have a look into the logfile - there should be some clues.
