Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

wdkester...

1. Sending of crash dumps has been disabled for Production OCPN 4.0. We simply do not have the hosting bandwidth to absorb the traffic that may have resulted from a widespread bug. Fortunately, this does not seem to be happening....
Crash reports will be re-enabled for the O 4.1 Beta series.

2. If you have the time, it would be useful to see simplified GPX files of some small routes and WP's which demonstrate your name collision and subsequent crash.

Thanks
Dave

My problem isn't easy to reproduce. First of all I have cleaned up all the name duplicates. I created a 20 point route and yanked it around but couldn't force a crash. I crossed chart boundaries, centered on and off screen. I had the large files(WP and Route) loaded but didn't use them in the test. It took me 3 hours to get them straightened out and I don't want to screw them up again.

I also tried a bunch of center views on the clean files. No luck.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Hello,

This might have been answered already elsewhere, but searching for technical terms is not easy, so please entertain me...

I am running Linux Mint 17 Xfce. My GPS is at /dev/ttyACM0 owned by root:dialout. Permissions are read/write for owner and group (660). My user "gil" is in the dialout group.
The GPS connection is direct serial.

OpenCPN is only accessing the GPS when run as root... Even though user/group/permissions seems all right....?

Thanks,

Gil.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Dave,

I have simplified my instructions for installing linux and OpenCPN on android devices. In advance of posting at opencpn.org I need to know if a permanent fix to the CMakeLists.txt file has been done, or will I still need to instruct folks to download my edited CMakeLists.txt file? To refresh your memory this was required to display ownship, waypoints and marks.

Thanks

Wrong...

The current github master does NOT include your patch, yet.

There is a proposed Pull Request that addresses the GLES-on-arm question more broadly, but it has not been scrubbed and merged yet. I hope to get to this soon.

Meanwhile, I recommend that you apply your patch manually to the existing github CMakeLists.txt, and document that.

Thanks for asking
Dave

Dave,

Thanks. I've made the 'manually patched' file available to everyone following my instructions for download from 4Share, the file hosting site. It's the only remaining 'bump' in the road requiring a divergence from an otherwise straight forward, simplified set of instructions.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

I have downloaded and installed 4.0 on a Win 7 Toshiba notebook.
Win I attempt to install a GPS the "Connection" function to Add fails.

I am using a BU-353 gps which I have installed and tested with GlobalSat's GPSInfo.

I have OpenCPN 3.2.2 running on another Win7 laptop using the same GPS successfully.

What am I missing with v4.0?

What does mean "it fails"? And your Windows version on this PC?

What does " Win I attempt to install a GPS the "Connection" function to Add fails." mean exactly?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

In v3.22 under "connections" when I click on "Add Connection" a property box appears that allows me to inter GPS info (serial, network, com port etc.)

In the v4.0 version under "connections" when I click on "Add Connection" the property box does not appear. Nothing happens.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

oops, my bad.

My notebook screen is much smaller then my laptop screen. The "properties" dialog was below the boundary of the window and I did not notice the scroll slide in the window.

I have now successfully installed the GPS under 4.0

Thank you for your quick response.

Not saved location and activity plugin dashboard after exiting program.

We have to include the plugin each time the toolbar, and the siting of the window on the screen.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Well, I've installed ver. 4.0 and it runs well. So my question is regarding how to use it. And I've reviewed the user manual, can't find the specific capability there, if it exists.

Aside from searching the Chart Selection Bar, is there any way of going directly to a specific chart, say 11367 (NOAA)? I use cruising guides when I've not been there before and they usually reference a specific chart number.

OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Boris...
No, there is no way to show specific numbered chart. Quilting and different chart types supported make it less useful than it first seems.
