Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

I recently tried a 8" screen windows tablet.

My impression is that I could use this underway with raster charts. Not vector charts because, even though you can make the depths bigger, for my old eyes I need the depths bolder.

Some additional thots on the Graphical User Interface.

1. Could it scale up the status bar and the menu bar? They are quite small.
2. The Right click chart menu can be enlarged with the Font feature under User Interface; however the Chart Groups pull down menu is unaffected. Too small even for a pen touch.
3. I like the chart objects slider, especially the fact that it makes depths larger (vector charts. I wish there was some way to make depths Bold.
4. A right click of the Tool Bar results in a list of tools. a. WMM is missing from the list b. The menu doesn't follow the "Menu-Font" selection. I'm not likely to use this much as the Tool Bar shrink is much handier.
5. The Options menus don't use the "Menu Font" selection. not a big deal as they are used sitting still.
6.Should the AIS Target list, Waypoint and Route Properties follow the "Menu Font" or maybe have their own font selection?

I admit to not having tried all the objects in the pull down list under User Interface> Fonts.

wdkester....

Thanks for the comments. They go on the list for later improvements.

Try adjusting the item User Interface> Fonts-> Dialog to get larger characters for Options, etc...

Dave

"User Interface> Fonts-> Dialog" doesn't seem to affect Options; but it does affect Route Manager and sub menus. Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

In the previous post I was wrong on both assertions-
1.User Interface> Fonts-> Dialog does affect Options
2. It does not affect Route Manager

However in playing around I managed to get Route Manager text size=Huge and I can't find a way to reduce it to normal. I set all "User Interface> Fonts->" to something reasonable. I scanned the ini file and found the Fonts settings which seemed to be 400, or 600 Pixels?, but nothing related to Route Manager fonts.

I was playing around on a laptop not a tablet, as the tablet is too hard to experiment with.

Help.

Fixed it by unclicking "Enable Touchscreen interface" and "Enable Tablet Scaled Graphic interface".

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hi all, I apologize that my new job has kept me too busy to do my usual "abuse testing" of the new release. I did not even realize that 4.2 had come out until a few days ago.

I installed it on my home desktop Windows 7 machine, and replaced all my plugins with the new versions. A couple of quick comments:

I get a lot of freeze-ups, where the title bar says "Not Responding," and the window turns faded and eventually crashes or the process needs to be killed.

When it is running, I've noticed some problems with OTCurrents plugin. The date picker window is too small for the calendar, causing the days on the left and right (in the US it would be Sunday and Saturday) to not show up. This window cannot be resized and there is no scroll bar, so there's no apparent workaround for this. I can post a screenshot later - I'm not at the right computer now. I use OTCurrents extensively for weekend cruise planning, so this is a real bummer.

That's all I've noticed so far. I apologize if these issues were alerady covered elsewhere on this thread. It's going to take me a little while to get caught up reading all the posts so far.

Yes, I have seen this problem. A simple fix when I get a few minutes.

You may get the edge of the dates on either side, which works for me here.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

RDr After lots of testing of both plugins and opencpn, I was freezing choking etc. Did a totally fresh install, first copy and rename opencpn.ini for reference/copy parts like chart sections later and run windows cleanups, then reinstalled fresh, and start opengl and cache fresh, with freshly rebuilt charts db and it worked much better!
Then start adding your plugins one by one.

I think he calls it Tidefinder and I think that is the way it is in the user manual.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.2 Released

Hello Dave,

This affects the display of tides. I compare the display between 0 4.0 and O 4.2.
Look at the screenshots. (here below Left , 4.0 and right 4.2)

Version 4.2 no longer displays data on high tides and low sea?

Is this a bug or is it voluntary?

If it is voluntary, it is also necessary that we adapt the wiki page.
---> http://opencpn.org/ocpn/toolbar_tides-and-currents

And, if it is voluntary, it seems to me to be a regression.

This is the picture from OCPN 4.2 for Mac OS X. I don't know which version you have used.
