Likely my old .conf file was somehow corrupt.
Dankje wel, I tried that but no difference..

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

I am not yet seeing the "opengl with cm93 pinwheel problem with O4.4"....( Linux mint Rafaela 64bit)
I say "yet" because a reboot or restart hasn't been done yet-so new an installation

I have had the problem before on earlier beta (was it 4.1.13.01?) but a member here discovered that it was a bug in wxwidgets and downloading a fixed "wxwidgets" solved it then...

so;just a suggestion but be sure wxwidgets is updated....

I am looking through a pile of hdds but can't my note yet...sigh

Went there and will attend to it, but I already have 3.0.0-2 installed and Synaptic tells me its the current version, so I will have to manually override it. (how?)

Still its funny to be on Linux because of a Microsoft Allergy, and still be screwed by a contamination from them.

For any other readers, OpenCPN 4.4 is rock solid, no problems whatsoever, as is Linux Mint. This is a unique problem to do with C++ x-platform GUI toolkit...

Linux Mint, opencpn.conf file and pinwheel...

If I change a data in the toolbox and apply it, then the cursor will be OK (arrow) on next launch. But the pinwheel is back on the next one.
I made this several times and it's always the same behaviour.
I guess there's a new config file each time there're changes in parameters ?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

Hi, Is there anyone using Linux 17.x Mint 64, (any desktop) who is NOT experiencing the pinwheel?
Please could you post or PM your opencpn.conf file, I want to compare it to mine.
I have a feeling the conf file is not the problem, but this test could prove it either way.
Also, could you see what version of wxwidgets you are running, and are you using CM93?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

svgilana, my opencpn reports from logfile as
08:20:10 PDT: ------- Starting OpenCPN -------
08:20:10 PDT: Version 4.4.0 Build 2016-05-31
08:20:10 PDT: wxWidgets version: wxWidgets 3.0.0 Linux 64 bit wxGTK

will try to "pm" you my conf file. but you'll want to edit chart source location and maybe position unless you want to visit British Columbia...!

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

adding to above post, from the "Software Manager" I see specifically

libwxbase3.0.0-2
libwxgtk 3.0.0-2
wx3.0-headers 3.0.0-2
wx3.0-i18n 3.0.0-2
libwxbase3.0-dbg 3.0.2.1.trusty
wx-common 3.0.2-1.trusty

also some 2.8 versions...
might do some tidy up likely these aren't all being used unless compiling? oh well, anyways...might be useful as comparison to you

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

Hi Happy, I don't know if we are going to upset the crew here, by dealing with this in this thread.
@Dave please advise if you want me to move this off....
@ Happy, your version of wxwidgets identical to mine.
I have been playing with the logfile, using Kate. (You can open the logfile, and then start O, and Kate will report the changes) Here are the changes:

So, something in the above list triggered the pinwheel.

@ Dave, you asked if there was any way I could stop the pinwheel, once started. Just now I found that the pinwheel had stopped, and stayed stopped for the session, but did the usual thing on re-start.
What I did to stop it I am not sure but, I typed the top portion of this post, and I opened the logfile with Kate, and then closed Kate without saving, cut and pasted the differences....and the pinwheel had stopped when I returned to that O window, I panned, zoomed and could not cause the pinwheel to return by all usual triggers, until I restarted O.... Perhaps the problem is to do with the logfile remaining open???

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

another test :

launch OCPN : pinwheel
launch OCPN a second time (then 2 OPCN running at the same time) : cursor is OK on the 2nd one (the pinwheel remaining on the first OCPN)

Is OpenGL enable?

And after using the measure tool: keyboard 'M' ,escape , or function key F4? Do you still get the spinwheel or the arrow?

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

I personally don't think we should have the pinwheel due to buggyness. Instead we should have a guaranteed frame time, so the program never blocks and if the chart isn't loaded or ready, it simply displays a progress bar on the actual chart instead, and optionally shows the blurred lower scale chart.

This way when panning through enc that aren't ingested for example, you can continue past one not loaded, and it will discard/reduce priority and load what you want.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

I tried the two window test = Pinwheel in both.
F4 etc = No change
@Boat_Alexandra -- There is no delay in performance, no hesitation, everything is working perfectly, just the cursor is a pinwheel. The only difficulty is using a disc to point accurately, in measure etc.
@Happy Seagull -- Your .conf and mine are vastly different, ie no pointers there.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.4 Released

I'am using Linux Mint Cinnamon version 17.3 64 bits

Latest OpenCpn version 4.4.0.

No problems or spinning Wheels here with the Dutch Enc charts.

OpenGL is switched to on.

Runs perfect.

GPS and Ais data comes from my Wifi on the remote Raspberry PI 3 (with OpenPlotter)
