I already reported that sometimes ago and nobody paid attention to it.
On my Win10 the O icon use to show up as a empty page after every Win major update and has so since O version 4... something. The correct icon use to show up after a while. What I've heard is the icon not changed for years?

Baikal...
re:
"Yes, I would like to see the functionality of the old behavior that was back in 4.99 when mbtiles behaved the same as KAP."

We found that implementing this behavior is simply not possible in the general case.
Reason: MBtiles can be created in a variety of scales, combined zoom scales, geographical area, and coverage density. Attempting to quilt arbitrary MBTiles sets against any other chart type, or even to other tilesets, can lead to huge performance problems, depending on the tileset configuration. Simple single zoom isolated tiles are no problem. The problem arises with home-made tilesets created by in-experienced builders. And there are lots of these in the wild. Often these tilesets will have sparse tile coverage at one particular embedded zoom level, intending to pick out some interesting geographical feature. Quilting a sparse tileset zoom level against its next lower zoom level, and any backing charts, takes a large amount of memory. Indeed, some of these tilesets can cause simple pan/zoom operations to take literally minutes to complete. Or may never complete, due to system memory exhaustion.

In effect, on a computational complexity level, an arbitrary multi-zoom tileset looks more like cm93 than a simple KAP file. But without the benefit of a trained cartographer to layout the tileset in a logical and efficient manner.

So, MBtiles do not quilt. They are treated as overlays. The piano buttons turn them on and off. The 5.1 implementation which defaults "OFF" ensures that OCPN starts and runs reasonably, no matter what tilesets are present at startup.

As discussed above, we may be able to reasonably detect a "tile-only" chart group activation, and revert to 5.0 behavior for that group. Usability of this compromise remains to be seen...

"program icon is also missing here."

Management of the desktop program icon in Windows is completely the responsibility of the OS. The icon is present in the installation package. What the OS does with it is not the applications business.

Sorry

What model PC are you using? Have you seen any other troubles with OpenGL before? Does OpenCPN v5.0 work OK?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

I run a virtualbox guest W10 pro with all recent update, I did not want to screw up the 5.0 install that works fine on my laptop. It's the first time I install OpenCPN on a Win10 virtual machine. I did it with some Linux Guest.
I have never had troubles with OpenGL before (normal install on the same laptop).
It may comes from the virtualization ... Not sure..

Hope this helps.

juancho38...
Ah, the other shoe drops.

Virtualized OpenGL (on VBox at least) is not reliable. Depends on the host graphics adapter. Definitely not good on Intel integrated graphics.
I've given up on VBox W10 guest environment for critical GL graphics testing, and acquired a cheap W10 laptop, which I keep bone-stock for just for this purpose.

Thanks
Dave

bdcat

Yes you're right, I have just read some stuff on the subject.
No problem, I will install the new version on my laptop when it's released.

Meanwhile, I will continue exploring this new version without OpenGL, not such an issue.

Very good job !
Thanks.
Take care ...

You can not change the icon in your version 5.1.428.c07150b_setup.exe to this Icon :-
opencpn.exe like in the previous edition.

I agree to leave as it was in version 5.0 for mbtiles separately allocated to the group.
The fact that there is a default in version 5.0 leads to a great expectation of rendering my mbtiles.
I experimented with mbtiles display limits. The threshold is lowered and the mbtiles cells begin to appear only on a small zoom scale, productivity has increased significantly. My mbtiles usually consist of one or two zoom layers. in scale, they are equivalent to the scale of ENC cells.
General - z9-10 - large areas
Approach - z13 - large areas
Harbor - z15 - not large territories
Berthing - z17-18 - local places

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.428 Beta Test

Win 8.1

Latest compilation from the 'Master' makes an OpenCPN installer package that works fine on Win 8.1 and shows the program icon. A legacy plugin installed correctly.

And thanks ... I did not need to mess around with wxWidgets dlls.

So we should be using this instead of the original posting for the beta?
