If this happens again, please capture the OCPN logfile, and post here.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

If activating "Calculate SOG and COG from position changes", then closing down the Options dialog, followed by reopening Options-Ships-Own Ship...I see this

A very scrambled dialog. In this case I was running a VDR file, but the same thing happens without using VDR.

Kubuntu 20.04.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Hello Dave,

Currently, even if we do not have this instrument on the boat, the 3 items "Heading up", "Head up mode" and "Head up" appear in the context menus and / or in the "Display panel nautical charts ".

We now have context menus and a panel that becomes difficult to read, there are so many items present.

I believe that this presence is not useful for those whose boat does not have this instrument.
I looked in the "Options" for an item allowing to display or hide these 3 items. I did not find any.
Would it be possible to put one maybe in the "Customize" tab of the "Options?

Paul,

We think it is not “hung”. It is just thinking really hard. What CPU and clock speed is your computer? How much RAM?

Let it think for a while. On my i7 computer it takes about 10 seconds to display the 1007 charts. It acts “hung” for that time but it really is not.

Does your hang ever get unstuck If you wait? How long do you have to wait?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Dan,

Now I agree. OpenCPN does not hang when downloading All US NOAA ENC or All US NOAA RNC.

This is a description of my computer:
Code:
Toshiba Satellite C55-A5302 notebook computer
x64 based processor Intel Pentium 2020M dual core 2.4 GHz, 2.4 GHz
Installed RAM 6.00 GB (5.88 GB Usable)
64-bit OS Windows 10 Home version 1909 installed 8/29/2019
OS Build 18363.836
I made several attempts yesterday to get the downloader to list these large catalogs. After the first try, I started running O 5.1.529 and the Task Manager in side-by-side windows. I noted about 20 minutes after Task Manager stopped updating until I shut the computer down with the power switch, but I was not trying to measure the time.

I did time it today. I did not run Task Manager today. Here are my notes.

Code:
Chart downloader timing
17:55 UTC (GPS) Select catalog ENC; click on UPDATE 17:55 (taskbar clock)
18:01 UTC (GPS) "WiFi connections" on taskbar dead 17:59 (taskbar clock)
18:18 UTC (GPS) "Download Charts ..." tab openned 18:18 (taskbar clock)
18:26 UTC (GPS) Still no check boxes and chart names 18:26 (taskbar clock)
18:27 UTC (GPS) Taskbar clock stopped 18:27 (taskbar clock)
18:33 UTC (GPS) Charts wth check boxes displayed and then cleared 18:27 (taskbar clock)
18:42 UTC (GPS) Taskbar clock remains stopped 18:27 (taskbar clock)
18:51 UTC (GPS) Taskbar clock running. Chart Downloader screen flashed
someting twice. No chart names with check boxes. 18:51 (taskbar clock)
18:55 UTC (GPS) Thumb moves on right scroll bar under "Charts All".
Bottom scroll bar at far right. I moved it left and
chart names displayed with check boxes. 18:55 (taskbar clock)
19:04 UTC (GPS) Downloaded "San Diego to Aleutian Islands and Hawaiian
                Islands". 0.3 MB chart downloaded.
                Spinning disk. Clicked "OK"
19:09 UTC (GPS) "Options (Not Reponding)" at top of Options window.
Only other text in "Options" is "OK", "Cancel", "Apply".
Chart canvas is black with chart bar and menu for Chart
                Panel Options.
19:15 UTC (GPS) Taskbar clock running. Spinning disk.
19:21 UTC (GPS) Spinning disk. Black chart canvas. "Options (Not Responding)"
19:33 UTC (GPS) Previous chart displayed on canvas under "Options (Not
Responding)" window. Windows task bar is not responding.
The taskbar clock has been running since 18:51.
19:37 UTC (GPS) "Options" window cleared.

The "San Diego to Aleutian Islands and Hawaiian Islands" chart displays OK.

Moo...
OK, I see it now.
As you can see, the canvas control bar on the right panel is vertical. This is necessary to provide enough room for the chart selector buttons (the "piano"), which is a fixed proportion of the chart panel width.
We judged keeping the "piano" a good useful size to be more important than showing present chart scale on the smaller canvas control bar.. Opinions may differ, but that is how it works today.

Thanks
Dave

Hmm OK. On my laptop I can shrink the panes a lot more and the piano shrinks to accommodate the toolbar before it flicks to vertical so something is not playing consistently. In fact they overlap a bit before flipping.

A 13" screen this time but with higher resolution of 1920 x 1080

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.529 Beta Test

Hi,

Something is wrong when OpenGL is activated on my DELL XPS 13 (hires...) running Ubuntu 20.04, see the screenshot. When OpenGL is off, the display is correct.

Also, the settings items in the dialog are all messed up. This doesn't happens on each launch, only one in two or three launches. Redrawing the dialog (hide/show, or resize) makes the contents redraw correctly. This bug happens in both OpenGL on/off modes.

This is with a locally compiled OpenCPN from git tag V5.1.529_Beta (BTW is there a branch tracking the beta development ?)

Thanks,

Stelian.

Of course it's the master git branch... For some reason I thought it might have been something else.

Stelian...
The GL problem on Ubuntu 20.04 seems to only occur when screen scaling is set to other than 100%.

Please confirm this for your system.
Thanks
Dave

This is how the"Options" Dialog comes up every time it's used, after last nights git-patches. I can correct the size, but it's not even kept in the current session.

Ubuntu 20.04

Strangely, it works for me ! (Ubuntu 20.04 as well, I just did a git pull and I'm at commit 8d5292db)

However, each time I launch opencpn I get the world map displayed, instead of latest zoom/position. I'm pretty sure it worked yesterday.
