OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Hello all OpenCPN supporters !

Continuing our Beta test, here is Beta v5.1.612

Here are the links for Windows and Mac installation packages.

The downloadable installers for Mac and Windows are here:
Windows

http://download.opencpn.org/beta//op...c9c4_setup.exe

MacOS
http://download.opencpn.org/beta/Ope...+1.4f9c9c4.pkg

For linux users running a debian-derivative distribution, you may install the Beta using your distro's package management tools.
Packages for Trusty, Xenial, Bionic, and Focal are available from the OpenCPN Beta PPA.

Please note that above links are fixed, and will not reflect the ongoing daily build cycles.
If you need to test a feature that you know or suspect has been fixed or added by a daily build, you may find it here:
https://cloudsmith.io/~david-registe...able/packages/

Here is a list of some of the corrections and new features in this Beta release:

Beta 5.1.612
---------------------
1. Improve some screen layouts on chart downloader plugin
2. On chart scale selector, allow syntax like "1:10000"
3. Improve some options dialog screens for Ubuntu 20.04
4. Correct JSON response to message "OCPN_ACTIVE_ROUTELEG_REQUEST"
5. Do not offer "Heading Up" on canvas context menu option if gHdt is not present.
6. Set default Name Visibility for new or imported layers to TRUE.
7. Remove excess signalK log messages.
8. Start cursorwait (spinning hourglass, etc) on some plugin UI operations accessing network
9. Incorporate all current crowdin translations...
10. Improve keyboard "+/-" key zooming response in smoothzoom mode.
11. Correct MBtile multicanvas display rules on piano rollover.
12. Correct GPX import with "planned speed" parameter.
13. Add ENC Sounding size slider control

Plan:
This is scheduled to be the "last" Beta for OpenCPN v5.1. The next release will be the first "Release Candidate"
Please continue to test hard, and be unforgiving of any errors or glitches encountered.

Thanks
Dave and the OCPN Team

Dave

More "nitpicks" with Ubuntu 20.04 cosmetics...

All earlier complaints regarding list in Options->Charts taken care of. Thanks

Look at Options->Display->Units->Distance

In this kind of selection box the text changes to white, when marked, instead of staying black.

The same applies for:

"Speed", "Depth", "Lat/Long" in the same tab.

Options->Ships->Own Ship->"Ship Icon Type","Show Range Rings" and "Tracking Precission".

Options->Ships->Own Ship->Routes/Point-> Waypoint Range Rings
(Note that 2 x "Wpt default icon" are different and OK)

Option->User Interface->"Language", "Fonts". Maybe for "Sound Device as well, but I cant get this option to show anything??

------------------------------------

Thanks
Thomas

OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

I’ve been running this on my MacBook Pro side-by-side with O5.0.1+0266678 on my Mac Mini - which I use as my main navigation computer aboard. Sailing back and forth across the Santa Barbara channel yesterday and today, I can report that 5.1.605 has been FAR superior and way more stable. 5.0.1 has crashed twice this trip while 5.1.6 has just kept going!

Will d/l and install this new version as soon as I get back. Thinking to move it over very soon, as it is more stable than my “main” version.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Thanks Dave. First look on W10 pro 1909 with openGL:

1) Zoom +/- controls much improved and scales are now totally rational!

2) ENC sounding factor adjustment works for CM93-2 and oeSENC 4.2.10

3) Update to oeSENC plugin 4.2.10 works right away

VDR, macOS

does not get installed.
Looks nice installing, but is not really there. After restart of OCPN, back to zero.

Same thing happened in 5.1.***. Try installing a previous version the "Old Fashioned Way", the do the upgrade. That's the work around. Still needs to get sorted, though.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

VDR_pi v1.2.3 has been pushed to plugins master branch, if it is merged now it should be available. I had the same problem knowing that the new version was installed. Dave suggested incrementing the third position rather than the fourth.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

Clicking mbTiles on/off with the piano keys leaves the X on the left edge always visible on Win10. The X used to appear only when that mbTile was NOT selected. The piano key changes color, but that's now the only way to tell which mbTiles are active.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

  • right click on the dashboard
  • dashboard preferences
  • appearance tab
For the title, for example, but also for the other items, when we change the size of the fonts (go from 10 to 14 for example), the figure does not change in the elevator, which can become disturbing for some.

You must close the dialog window, the changes are made on the dashboard and when you open the preferences / appearance window again, you see that the figure has been modified (14 instead of 10).

I do not know if I am very clear, this is not very penalizing but may confuse many users.

Finally, in the appearance tab of the preferences window of the dashboard, it appears possible to change not only the size of the fonts but also the color.

However it is not possible to change the colors of the characters and this causes a lot of questions from users.

If this functionality (changing the color of the dashboard'fonts) is not operational, you might as well delete it because it creates a lot of recurring questions.

Thanks for all

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

This is not a bug, just an improvement, if possible.

In the status bar, very practical since it is possible to change the color of the characters, the size is limited to 14 which makes it small on large screens.

Would it be possible to increase this limit (to 22 or 25) and in this case to be able to delete one or two pieces of information which would risk "overlapping".

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.612 Beta Test

I would like the colour of the title bar of the dashboard to be selectable. Currently it just follows Win10 "rules". So when dashboard is the active window, the title bar is blue. When the dashboard is not the active window (but still enabled and visible) the title bar changes to white.
This becomes an issue at night. Even in night mode, that window is glaringly white to the point of being slightly annoying.
