OpenCPN Version 5.1.708 RC2 Test

Hello all OpenCPN supporters !

Continuing our Beta test, here is RC2 v5.1.708

Here are the links for Windows and Mac installation packages.

The downloadable installers for Mac and Windows are here:
Windows

http://download.opencpn.org/beta/ope...94f3_setup.exe

MacOS
http://download.opencpn.org/beta/OpenCPN_5.1.708+1.e8a94f3.pkg

For linux users running a debian-derivative distribution, you may install the Beta using your distro's package management tools.
Packages for Trusty, Xenial, Bionic, and Focal are available from the OpenCPN Beta PPA.

Please note that above links are fixed, and will not reflect the ongoing daily build cycles.
If you need to test a feature that you know or suspect has been fixed or added by a daily build, you may find it here:
https://cloudsmith.io/~david-registe...able/packages/

Here is a list of some of the corrections and new features in this Beta release:

RC2 5.1.708
-----------------------

1. Improve Garmin GRMN mode setup and detection on linux systems
2. Improve startup chart persistence for plugin chart types.
3. Correct Flatpak plugin compatibility test.
4. Correct default sound configuration on arm* (rPi) hosts.
5. Correct ENC sounding rendering for "low accuracy" soundings.
6. Refine plugin list panel layout.

Plan:
The RC2 is a "Release Candidate". In theory, only the Version Indicator text shall be changed to create a formal Release. Only significant and reproducible bugs will be addressed in this test cycle. Minor bugs with workarounds available will be allowed to stand.
Of course, in practice, we will consider each bug reported on its own "merits".

Getting closer now...
Thanks
Dave and the OCPN Team

OpenCPN 5.1.708 RC2 tested on my 64 RaspiOS on the RPI 4 2GB

708 also tested on my AMD64 Linux Mint Alyana (Focal)

Both running perfect including the Oesenc Charts with Oesenc dongle.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.708 RC2 Test

I have the same error message as Jan Eulen (# 2) with the installation of the OtCurrent plugin.

In addition, after installing the VDR plugin, two proposals appear in the list (see illustration)...

And why are WMM and ChartDownloader plugins checked by default ?
For all those who do not use these plugins, each installation must remember to uncheck them ...

What happens if you refresh the plug-in catalogue ("mettre a jour...")?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.708 RC2 Test

hi Dave,

i don't understand why udev rule for sglock dongle is now packed in opencpn package. After this commit (https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/c...4ca22219f3789d) OpenCPN package collides with oesenc-pi (legacy) package because it contains the same file

Regards
BlackSea

P.S. i think it belongs better in package where libsgllnx* is delivered

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.708 RC2 Test

BlackSea...

I do not see any collision here. The file names are different.
oeSENC installs "98-sglock.rules".
OCPN installs "98-sglock-ocpn.rules"

Different files, although same content. No foul...

This is done to support managed plugins. I suggest you install oesenc as a managed plugin, and leave the legacy plugin dormant.

Thanks
Dave

It was not necessary.
Indeed, while testing other plugins, I turned OCN off and restarted it several times and the VDR 1.2 plugin no longer appears in the list.
However, this is disturbing to the installation for someone who is not used to it ...

This shall only happen in a transient period. I saw this as well and after the first refresh or restart the "ghost" is gone. A virgin install will not show this issue.

On RaspberryPi with dark theme all the tooltips are unreadable.
It uses white over light yellow. See the screenshot.

Thanks,

Bug or by purpose?

Johan...
On purpose. Two instances sharing the same ~/.opencpn data storage will collide for sure. You should use portable mode....

Thanks
Dave
