Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Dave,

It rarely works - mostly just moves. Is the tap length configurable? Just downgrading to 5.0 restored it. I've tried a USB mouse and it's a bit better - there is some jitter on the resistive touch screen - would that make it think that I was trying to move it versus open the menu?

thanks
Jim

But in your screenshot, I see a standard icon for WMM (the circle with "3.9").

To assist in correction, it would be useful to have a list of the plugins with incorrect toolbar icons.

Dave

Here is a specific case of displaying the white and green icon.

I had just installed using the plugin manager, the UK Tide plugin (In French "Tide GB").
- I launched UK tide for a first try,
- I stopped UK Tide,
- At this point, the white and green icon took the place of the OT Current plugin icon which was right next to the UK tide icon in the left column.

See the bottom of the first screenshot.

And precisely, by making this first screenshot, this caused an update of the display of the OpenCPN screen. So the plugins icons are reorganized. And, at this point, no white and green icon appears .... See the second screenshot.

I am convinced that if the "OT Current" plugin had been another plugin, the icon of this other plugin would have been replaced.

In other words, the appearance of these white and green icons would be linked to a problem with updating the OpenCPN screen.

Does this help you understand the phenomenon?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Dave, yet another try.

I had installed the "PhotoLayer" plugin (before installing and trying UK Tide). Then, I wanted to go to the preferences of "PhotoLayer". After exiting "PhotoLayer" I observed two white and green icons: The one for "WaetherRouting and the one for" UK Tide "have been replaced. See the first screenshot.

BUT, after this first screenshot, the order of the plugins icons had no reason to change, and the two white and green icons remained displayed. See second screen copy.

I think this confirms my theory made in my previous post.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Dave,

Note that if I stop and restart OpenCPN, no white and green icon appears if there was one before.

Gilletarom, et al...

After some analysis, I think we have gotten to the root cause of the green icon problem. Correction will be in github soon, will become part of the next release. It is a difficult problem to describe, but relates to the "tooltip" messages shown on icon rollover. There is no user workaround.

Thanks for the detailed reports.

In any case, this bug has, in my opinion, no negative effect on the functioning of OpenCPN. It may just worry users, quite unnecessarily.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Quick question ...
I have updated OCPN from 5.0 to 5.2 on windows 10 2004. It is a lot longer to start than it use to be. Is it normal ?
It seems I have read that it should be quicker ...
I didn't noticed this change under linux (Ubuntu 20.04)
Any feedback would be welcome ...
Cheers.
J.

juancho...

How much is "a lot longer"?
As an experiment, you may try to stop OCPN, save(rename) your current config file, and restart OCPN. It will create a new config file, no plugins loaded, no charts, no connections, no nuthin'. Time it.

After the test, rename your saved config file, and you will be back to start.
Compare the startup times with the two config files.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Dave,

Thanks for your feedback.
I renamed opencpn.ini opencpn.ini.back. Opencpn started in about 2 sec. with a brand new fresh opencpn.ini.
I then renamed opencpn.ini.back opencpn.ini. first launch OCPN start took about 20 mn, updating the charts databases. I closed and restarted, it then took around 15 sec. as it was before.
May be 15 sec is ok with quite a lot of charts and plugins. It seems to me it was starting a lot quicker in OCPN 5.0 (may be 5 to 6 sec with the same conf).
I can do with it ! just asking ... In case it is a issue !

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Well ... I finally decided to reinstall OPCN from scratch, and something very strange occurred :
I uninstalled all plugin with the appropriate uninstall.exe
I uninstalled OCPN 5.2 with the appropriate uninstall.exe
I checked both OpenCPN (Program and ProgramData ) directories were removed.
I used CCleaner to clean the registry.
I searched for "opencpn" on C:\ hardrive, nothing left.

I rebooted.
I reinstalled OCPN 5.2 fresh downloaded from opencpn.org.
I launched OCPN, open the plugin manager, a lot of plugins formerly installed were checked as installed in the plugin manager ... !!?

How can I make a brand new fresh OCPN install ? No plugin, nothing ... ??
Something left in the registry ?

Thanks for your help.

What are "a lot" ? You know some plugins are inbound and thus installed by the OpenCPN program install package? WMM, Dashboard, Grib and Chart Downloader. Did you get any other?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

I don't know what the grumble is, but perhaps he has never tried Options>Plugins > "Update Plugin Catalog" and then installed the plugins from the new interface?

Maybe he does not have access to internet?

Doesn't get much easier.

Start with internal plugins: grib, wmm, chartdownloader, dashboard
