Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

P_Dub....
You may have noticed that one-time program suggestions seen in CF outside of an active Beta Test series are rarely acted on, even if noticed. There is just too much random noise on this channel to regard these "drive-by" comments as urgent, or even relevent.

That is the purpose of Flyspray. A Flyspray Task for this issue, posted in the 5.2.0 Release Project, will be addressed before the next Release.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Yes, I think it might be occurring upon upgrade of Opencpn, but perhaps whenever wr is upgraded.

WR is supposed to be ready to "compute" out of the box, with all settings set to something reasonable. The only things needed I believe are a good grib file set to the beginning of the grib, set a start point and an end point. Then in edit configuration, pick grib time and then pick "compute". The sample polars and boat will be used.

I believe it is doing this now. The change is the new destination for the parent WR files. Somehow this causes a hang up on first use. Then the second use is fine. I've installed after cleaning out all WR files, everywhere, and it seems to work fine.

I think it hiccups when there is a previous installation that was not using Plugin Manager, a legacy install or an import. I've never really noticed this however, perhaps because I just push on an try it again and it works. I will have to notice this.

Thank you for looking at it.

I upgraded from 5 to 5.2. It seems faster now, wonderful. The charts are showing some duplicate labels though, what would cause that?

Try turning on the declutter text option. When the ENC chart options are set to display any and all text you will get duplicates like this. That’s because the same text appears in the ENC files more than once. The declutter option tries to not so the same text multiple times.

Thanks for that. I have always had the declutter option selected and had never seen this effect, but it certainly does avoid spurious text repeats!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Has anyone had trouble upgrading to 5.2.0.0 on ubuntu? I have:

Linux version 3.13.0-170-generic (buildd@lcy01-amd64-001) (gcc version 4.8.4 (Ubuntu 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.4) ) #220-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 9 12:40:49 UTC 2019)

My system update notified me of the upgrade and I told it to install and it failed. I got complaints like:

Unpacking opencpn (5.2.0.0-0~trusty1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/opencpn_5.2.0.0-0~trusty1_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/opencpn/tcdata/HARMONIC.IDX', which is also in package opencpn-tcdata 3.3.2107-0~trusty1
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Preparing to unpack .../opencpn-gshhs-intermediate_2.2.4-0~trusty2_all.deb ...

Selecting previously unselected package opencpn-gshhs-high.
Preparing to unpack .../opencpn-gshhs-high_2.2.4-0~trusty2_all.deb ...
. . .
I tried cleaning everything up with dpkg --remove of everything opencpn related from "dpkg -- list | grep opencpn" including opencpn-gshhs* and tcdata (HARMONIC.IDX) and then cleaning up with

apt-get update
dpkg --configure -a
apt-get -f install
apt-get clean

and then manually installing with

apt-get install software-properties-common
add-apt-repository ppa:opencpn/opencpn
apt-get update
apt-get install opencpn

Preparing to unpack .../xcalib_0.8.dfsg1-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking xcalib (0.8.dfsg1-2ubuntu1) ...

Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/opencpn_5.2.0.0-0~trusty1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

It seems like the install of opencpn 5.2.0.0 is trying to install the HARMONIC file when it has been previously installed by apt-get because it is listed as a dependency of opencpn. Further, apt-get seems to think it is a dependency of the prior release of opencpn 3.3.2107-0~trusty1 and that version of opencpn is not installed.

Last, to make sure there weren't new install instructions, I tried to install the "Recommended packages" opencpn-doc and got "E: Package 'opencpn-doc' has no installation candidate".

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Hello,
I’m trying to download charts. I’ve selected a region and go into download charts tab and nothing is selected. How can I select all? I can’t click on each one of them. Not with a small touch screen in a cockpit.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

It says 97 charts new. But I can’t even click on new to download them. Plus in the middle of it a pop up came with wind instrument from dashboard in which close button didn’t work as it had heel angle which showed 180 degrees. No joke. It slowly leveled to 4. Labels for checkboxes all 97 of them where same color as background so all I could see is checkboxes. I’ve tried going to same screen and I had one crash of OpenCPN. If anyone could help me to download all charts for a selected region I would appreciate that.

Thanks

If you go to Options/Chart/Chart Downloader and click Add Catalog, then select the region you want, do you not see the All option there? What region are you trying to download?

Ubuntu Trusty was not well tested in Beta. 6 years old, now....
Anyway, your analysis of the upgrade conflict is correct.
Build recipe corrected, and building in Production PPA now, as version 5.2.0.3. Should be ready in an hour or so.

Thanks for the report.

Right click on the list of all the new charts and select “new charts” from popup menu. Then you can download them.

It is so much easier to ask the experts here than actually reading the manual.

How can I right click with a touch screen on raspberry? There is no right click emulation.

Also documentation say use spacebar,
but there is no keyboard in a cockpit.

Thanks

Maybe you should get a wireless mouse?? Or similar.

Right Click is kind of essential for Opencpn

What happens when you hold your finger down over the ocean?
..probably a waypoint, but maybe a menu comes up?
