Hello,

Here is a phenomenon that is common. The plugins icon in the vertical icon bar is often replaced by a green and white icon.

In my tests, I installed 33 plugins. Using the plugins of the (many) dashboard family, but these are not the only plugins with which this type of phenomenon occurs, I had almost half of the icons that have been transformed. Today,by example, the phenomenon has taken place with the WMM plugin.

Is this a problem attributable to plugins or to OpenCPN 5.2?

Generally a problem with the plugin.
But in your screenshot, I see a standard icon for WMM (the circle with "3.9").


To assist in correction, it would be useful to have a list of the plugins with incorrect toolbar icons.

No, it is a problem with OCPN 5.2.
Since the useless changes for plugins in 5.2 the plugin system is broken more than ever before.

While trying to solve my Konni Logbook problem on Windows 10 (post #71), I removed and re-installed OpenCPN and/or Konni Logbook (both with the Windows Setup Package downloaded from the OpenCPN website or the facility build into OpenCPN 5.2) many times and I also saw this green-white puzzle piece. However, it did not always replace the legitimate logbook logo, this seemed inconsistent. And yes, no success in using the logbook.

Question for the group regarding OpenCPN 5.2. I downloaded the new version and am having a small problem...Under Charts; Vector Display; I cannot access the "User Standard Objects," partially greyed out. I am sure it is operator error. Thoughts?

Dave, thanks for all your work. I am coming back with a request that I am sure you can do easily. Presently when you want to increase the size (length) of the current arrows you use the slider for chart object. Would it be possible to separete this in order to lenght only the arrows? At the moment you increase the size of the icon at the same time and the width of the arrows. If you are interested into what i did for Harmonic and Idx file (more than 4000 stations around the world) I can let you have a copy.

Go to the amburger, at the bottom right of the screen. You can now choose "User Standard Objects" at the very bottom. And once this choice has been made, you can go to "Options / charts / Vector chart" to choose, one by one, the objects that you actually want to display.

I've also seen this phenomenon. Just randomly clicking on the toolbar icon for either of my two plugins (Race Start Display and Engine Dashboard) to either display or hide the plugin causes the green/white jigsaw to display instead of the svg graphic.
I'm not going to point fingers, but I've never seen this occur in a previous version of OpenCPN, and the changes to the plugin code that I have made for OpenCPN 5.2 are minimal (save for the new build and ci commands). For example in the Race Start Display the only change made was from:

wxString shareLocn = *GetpSharedDataLocation() + ....

to

wxString shareLocn = GetPluginDataDir(PLUGIN_PACKAGE_NAME) + ....

If it is indeed a problem with the plug-in, I would suggest that a lack of decent documentation for both API's and samples might to to blame.

Whlie the API is indeed poorly documented there are some notes on the changes done for the plugin system at https://github.com/leamas/opencpn/wiki. You might also want to check the oesenc plugin at https://github.com/bdbcat/oesenc_pi/ which is kind of a reference plugin. It is also a worst-case one with helper libraries, helper tools and what not.

The basic message is that if you have only changed the data directory chance is that there are missing bits. Also note that the old way to install for example .deb packages although less attractive for end users still is supported.

If you had problems using the flatpak version please file an issue at https://github.com/opencpn/opencpn. However, if you mean you cannot load flatpak plugins into a .deb package this is as expected.
