Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Douwe/Ptizef...
regarding:

"You are right. When dragging the last point of a route A to the last point of another route B you are asked the question if you want to append the rest of B in the dragged route. This is useless, as there is nothing to append."

Corrected in github now. Please build and verify.

Thanks

These selections do work to import/export into the respective tab of route, track and waypoint. Doing so from the Layers Tab though, nothing is changed in that tab.

A nit.

I have build and tested the route manipulation in master.
For clarity, in the following route A is a route that is already available and never modified. Route B is another route which is modified.

Below the "insert question" = "Insert (part of) this route in the new route?", similar for append question.

- Starting a new route in the last point of A does not get you the "insert" question. One could state that it is not needed, one could alternatively append A as well, but then you modify A and don't make a new route, which was the intention of the user. This worked in the original version.

- Dragging the start-point of B onto a mid-point (non-end point) of A does not get you the insert question (earlier it did).

- Dragging the end-point of B onto a mid-point of A does not get you the append question (earlier it did).

- When dragging an end-point of B, the "(part of) " can be removed from the question, as only entire routes can now be appended or inserted (see above), if the 2 above points are not corrected.

The issue that was reported in the original question is that the append / insert question should not be asked when there is nothing to insert or append. In the current version much more has been inhibited.

Additionally the (recursive) inclusion of part of the route itself could be excluded. This is implemented. New bug: when dragging a point of a route on the route itself the question "Replace this RoutePoint by the nearby Waypoint?" no longer appears and the routepoint can no longer be replaced.

I have not tested the touch interface.

It is good practice that the tester reports the issues and that the developer of the software corrects the issues. But this can not be done on a moving target.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Windows 10 64-bit

Update from 5.2.4

Crash on first run as others have mentioned. Tried 3 or 4 times without accepting "safe" mode.

Then I did accept the offer to run in "safe" mode. No crash.

Closed OpenCPN.

Ran again, all plug-ins were enabled, no crash.

Log renamed to PDF and attached in case it's helpful.

Yes, Beta testing with multiple active developers is definitely a moving target. Nature of the beast. But no matter, we'll get it right on iteration.

Thanks for the detailed report.

JohnGC...

Thanks for the report.
If it is not clear to all, if one gets a crash on startup then the root cause is likely due to a plugin. Safe mode will deactivate all plugins, so that should be the "go to" option after a crash. This gives the user a chance to proceed, and learn more.

Thanks

I have addressed all the bugs noted in your report, except one.

"New bug: when dragging a point of a route on the route itself the question "Replace this RoutePoint by the nearby Waypoint?" no longer appears and the routepoint can no longer be replaced."

What is the expected action here? The use case? Example?

Please build from github master and confirm other corrections if possible.
Thanks

Terry...
"The 'Show WPT names' checkbox on the Layers tab of the Route and Mark Manager doesn't seem to change anything. Should it?"

If the selected layer has waypoints with names defined, then this button will toggle their visibility. No change to the dialog contents will be seen. Tested on linux, works fine.

Anyone confirm on Windows?

Thanks

The click box "Show WPT names" on the Layers tab is sometimes confusing for first time users.
The first click does uncheck the box but it's "grayed out" and names are still visible. Another click on the box will toggle a normal unchecked box and the names are hidden.
I don't remember the logic for the grayed out function.

Example like the one shown by Terry (Yachtvalhalla) earlier: make a polygon route ending in the start point by dragging the last point onto the first point.
On dragging, I would expect the question: "Replace this RoutePoint by the nearby isolated Waypoint?", as was the case before I submitted by original PR.
(N.B. in my PR I removed the "isolated" as the point is not isolated but part of a route)

Thanks. That's what caused my initial thought that something was wrong.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.5.x Beta Test Starts

Current build as of today from Github.

OpenCPN renders chart incorrectly and crashes when switching between North-Up and Heading-Up Mode. Switching between North-Up and Course-UP seems OK, so possibly something related to World Magnet Model (WMM) plugin ?

See attached screen shots.

Excellent now.

Specially the differentiation between "Full route" and "Part of route" is nice for the user.

One improvement still: Remove the brackets in: "(Part of) Route to be appended to dragged route?" as it is now always part of. Even nicer one could easily differentiate: "Last part of route to be appended to the dragged route" and "First part of route to be inserted into the dragged route"

The brackets around "part of" can also be removed in the case of a new route being made.
