Windows 11
5.7.1+11.8cda8d2_setup.exe

Am I being a dumbo (again)?
I don't see oeSENC charts loaded and displayed. I don't see a plugin for this either.
I have done a database rebuild and a scan/update. So the charts are there, just not displaying

I have found that my Australian ENC charts show up when I zoom in. So that issue appears sorted.
Now for my New Zealand charts. I think these used to be S63 charts? Now it seems that there are no S63 tabs in the charts menu? Has this now changed to RNC format? Do I need to download new permits etc.?
This stuff is headache-inducing!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

MOB / PGN 129038 does not alert and does not show proper icon

Somebody around here tested their AIS-MOB devices.

A system using signalk as translator from N2K to N183 works/alerts correctly = screenshot 1. This system also draws the proper crosshair icon on the canvas.

On the system with O doing the reading of can0 directly, the system does not play an alert. on the canvas there is a dark grey ship and in the target dialog it says something like "Unknown, reserved 14". No screenshot, AIS timeout came quicker than my screen-shotting and typing...

LoL...
"PGN129040 is still not used to plot a AIS target?"
Just for my information, and to help prioritize limited assets...

Do you see this regularly from local class B targets, or just from an older at-sea recording?

btw, Still on my list, at low priority.

Thanks
Dave

The last time I saw that was in June during the crossing from Mexico to French Polynesia, outside the 200nm EEZ.

We plan on leaving FP and their EEZ in March/April and hopefully I don't get hung up in one of their big nets :-)

Hearsay has it that some of the longliners also mark their miles long lines with AIS transmitters.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Hi Dave,

Reporting a minor irritation with Beta 5.7.1 (also occasionally occurred with 5.6.2). Upon starting OpenCpn and navigating to /Options/Plugins, the plugins window will sometimes show no content (ie. no plugins) - see attached.

To recover from this, I had to close /options and exit OpenCPN and restart OpenCPN - sometimes had to repeat several times.

I am using MacOS 12.6 on a MacBook Pro.

The other issue is with opcn_Draw which does not work or show up in Plugins, but I am sure you know of that issue.

Happy New Year - Kevin

I have now found, downloaded and manually installed the S63 plugin. I don't know if this is necessary for the 5.7.1 version.

It does not appear to have made any difference - it is not listed in the plugin menu, and there is no S63 tab in the chart menu

Dave...

o-charts. Plain S-57 checked with NOAA US and InlandENCs are ok.

The S-63 plug-in is not available for the beta yet. Check the plug-in catalogue at Options|plug-ins for availability and install.

The plug-in from the web site is not compatible with the beta version of OCPN. Therefore your S-63 charts will not show up.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Hi Dave,

This is a question I keep meaning to ask every time Beta Testing come about.

I run OpenCPN on MacOS, and to run OpenCPN Beta and OpenCPN 5.6.2 on the same MacBook Pro, I have to 1st rename the existing OpenCPN.app to say OpenCPN_562.app. Because the Beta version and OpenCPN_562.app share the same preference folder "User/[me]/Library/Preferences/OpenCPN", I have to setup a new User and install OpenCPN_5712.app. It will create "User/[new user]/Library/Preferences/OpenCPN".

In addition, there are file sharing difficulties and permissions problems trying to access files and folders between two user groups.

This could all be avoided if both versions could be run under the same user group. For instance, if OpenCPN_562.app created "User/[me]/Library/Preferences/OpenCPN_562", and OpenCPN_5712.app created "User/[me]/Library/Preferences/OpenCPN_5712". Then the 2 apps could reside under the same user group and make my life easier.

Tell me if I am going about this the wrong way.

Regards - Kevin

No I don't think there are such a CanDump available for the developers.
A AIS-SART would be a class A transmitter. A N2k AIS receiver would consequently use PGN 129038 to the N2k-bus as in your example. Sounds fair and possible to implement to OCPN AIS-decoder. (If so are you able to make another test?)

But is this always true? A what's called "Man Overboard Notification" PGN 127233 would probably be used if a small (hand held) MOB device does transmit.
What's behind the decision for a N2k AIS receiver to use 129038 and/or 127233?
(PGN 127233 is not implemented in OCPN but could be I suppose)
