If I do that, the chart is empty. It’s just a chart then, without details. I suppose extra memory means extra details :-)

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

Screen shots would be helpful perhaps.

Memory does not influence on how information is presented.

There are two "screws" to adjust the presentation:
- the Chart Panel Options from the Display Menue down right, here check the Display Category and its settings
- The Zoom Detail slider at Options|Display|advanced

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

Hi BCN,

No problem. I go back to my original topic though, which is bothering me more than the 4/8 GB. When I open OpenCPN I see Overzoom on both maps. I zoom out and in on both maps, and on the same scale as before all details are there. I don't change anything on detail level, just zoom out and in.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

There are 2 separate functions, zooming in and out, and changing chart scale. When you are in "overzoom", then zoom out and back in, you are changing chart scale. Note a different chart is selected on the chart bar after you do that.

You can change chart scale without zooming by either selecting a different chart on the chart bar, or by pressing ctrl-left or ctrl-right.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

I found the difference, and now it gets weirder: my RPi 4GB had 256MB GPU-memory, my RPi 8GB had 64. I changed the latter to 256MB, and after a reboot all the chart settings were still correct.

I don't really believe that this setting is actually related, but it worked... I'll definitely will exchange the RPi's now!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

Hover with the mouse over the chart bar, here the chart in use (light green), and identify which is really rendered. I would bet it is a different one in your two screen shots.

How fast or at which zoom level a larger scale chart is shown - and hence more detail - you can influence by the Zoom/detail slider at Options|Display|advanced.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

You were right BCN,

On my boat the Vector slider was at -5, where on my test-RPi it was 0. I can't remember ever having touched that, since it used to work out of the box.

Thanks for your help!

hans..
Sliders like these can be unintentional moved by the mouse wheel if you happens to have it selected and move the wheel, searching for something else.
I've noticed it myself some times....

Will you tell me the location of this tide station (Lat/Lon) ?
I think it possible that the legend for the tide report is overlaying a chart sounding. You can test by turning OFF tide stations, or soundings, and investigate.

Thanks
Dave
Here you go. Position of the tide station is in the status bar.

Date/time is the filename of the screenshot for NZ local summer time UTC+13

Turning depth display on/off makes no difference; which in this case I would expect as the tide station is on land.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

Another small glitch in the tide window:

the time zone indicator ("UTC+12") is printed on top of the x-axis labels.

Does not happen with plain UTC, as there is no head line for the time difference.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

The European stations are presented rounded to decimeters, hence no garbling.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #3

Please, if anyone out there is able to test on a Win7 and report?
It shall be supported but likely not frequency tested.

I've a old one and it's working but not with latest o-charts. RNC and no licensed ENC works fine.

Moo...
Thanks for the specific screenshot. Data value garbling error corrected for next Beta.
Root cause: there are some duplicate tide stations in the TC data set. We should scrub that data to remove them.
The functional solution adopted is to simply skip duplicate stations at a particular lat/lon, +/- a few meters.
