This version crash on windows 10 immediately.
Re-install 5.71+291.f9abd77 which seems more stable.
Thanks

Version 5.7.1-71d64d2
Surface Pro X (SQ1 Win 11 ARM64)
Screen resolution 2880X1920 - text scale 150%

I guess that satellite number are extremely small or I'm doing something wrong in instruments.

attached setting for display the instruments board and some examples of GNSS display.

and also comparative with screen at same scale

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

Really I cannot believe it, in the screen-shot they seems much better than in the screen itself.

try this screen capture at 100%

also previous captures zoom it at 100% and will see that are quite small numbers.

Display of satellite numbers is extremely small as per my screen-shots, but it seems that the site resize then in some way that they look really good, when the screen in the computer running the program you fairly can't read the satellite number, for such reason I said put picture at 100% of zoom.

maybe downloading it and displaying at 100% you will see that real size of numbers.

that's why I wrote 2nd message because I can't believe that what I see in my screen is not of the same size of the displayed attachments of this forum.

of course I'm open to any option that could show it correctly.

Maybe you could see much better with the attachment and please see it 100% of zoom

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

Corsair..
The GNSS status instrument is meant for a "simple" view of satellites detected by the receiver. Just to be able to get a picture if the calculated position would be trust able. All numbers are kept small to not consume to much space especially on small screens. You can adjust the font used. In your picture number four, small.

To see a complete reception analysis you may use an app delivered or adapted for the GNSS sensor.

Hi,

I used to use Holux M-210, but on Friday I have received new BU-353N5 GNSS unit. I would like to test new device with different GNSS system, but connot find the way how to switch between GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, etc. There is a special menu, key shortcut or I should limit/filter some NMEA0183 sentence?

Thanks for advise,
Kubek

AFAIK this new version of OCPN could receive several sources of positioning and will show it in the instrument display.
in last stable 5.6.2 was only shown or I'm aware of it, GPS and GLONASS (shown in the instrument display, maybe or for sure that could process another sources)

but if you want to test you make a filter in the received NMEA string where you have the GNSS (Talker ID).
Bearing in mind if I remember that some sources are:
(you can find in any NMEA publication as Talkers):
  • $GP - GPS (USA)
  • $GL - Glonass (Russian Federation)
  • $GB or $BD - Beidu (China)
  • $GA - Galileo (EU)
  • $GI - NavIC (India)
  • $GQ - QZSS (Japan)
  • $GN - Combination of systems

could be another ones.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

Connection Tab.

I do any exchange to any connection, after finishing click on Apply, and that connection goes to inactive and have to go to it again and click in the checkbox to activate it, click on Apply too for being active.

sequence of screen-shots.

first one "1" and after "2".

and sometimes (not every time that click on the connection also it highlights in different color) click on connection shown as per "2" without any info as "1", only with the radius buttons shown in "2"

could reproduce in attachment "3"

The GNSS status instrument shifts between the received SAT-system every 20 seconds. So just wait and see which system your receiver reports.
If you wander what's received you can use the NMEA Debug window and filter for sentence GSV. (Pls tell if you need help on this)
If you receive GPGSV it's GPS, GLGSV = GLONASS, GAGSV = Galileo, BDGSV = BeiDou and so on.

Corsair... If you filter out the Talker like that you'll miss a lot other info as well. If you want to filter out Satellite status info for the GPS system you've to set the filter to exclude GPGSV and so on.
(GN is used only in sentence GGA >> GNGGA indicating that several satellite system are used to calculate the position fix.

Hakan .... Of course you missed the sentences of the talker filtered, but at least you could "test" what you receive.
and also as you state in the NMEA windows you can "filter" by talker and see what you're receiving.

what I said in my message is for testing purposes, not for a safe sailing, as much redundant system as you we're able to receive will increase the safety of navigation.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

Should be possible to have a much more accesible "NMEA window" in the program?
instead of going to settings and ...

this windows is quite interesting and useful to have a quick access to it just in case to check what are we receiving. e.g. in main windows under "Tools" could be one access.

Perhaps you are asking for a shortcut key to the nmea window?
