Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

That patch avoids extra open files, but can sound funny, chopped. Especially when panning the chart, = higher CPU load, the sound gets 'out of rhythm. I would have expected something like it with longer duration sounds, but even the shorter sounds get a hickup.

LOL...
You may like to compare to a build without libsndfile1, and see how it sounds.

I think I got it by accident before you told. It looks like it works.

I will try again with, and without. It just takes some time to compile.

What about portaudio-dev. is it necessary.

sounds the same.. pretty crappy. this is on pulseaudio, not yet on pipewire, it seems pulseaudio needs a split second to recognize something is coming from O and then route it to the speakers.

Maybe not for this release, but shouldn't O open an audio channel to the sound server and then pipe any audio to it, instead of opening / closing every second, ie for an anchor alarm?

I built O with libsnd and it seems to work OK.
I could receive AIS alerts for more than 50 min. without anything breaking.
Anchor alarms also do not break anything although there is jitter on the sound when interacting with O. but I can live with it.

Problem solved for me.
Thanks

LoL...
What is your system config for testing sound? And what sound in OCPN are you testing?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

OpenCPN 5.7.1+71ffe26
This version for Windows works OK except for a few tide stations like I did send you. Furthermore, the S57 tidal current showing like on raster charts are OK except that the strenght of the current is not indicated in kn. This could be done if possible in the next version please. Many thanks.

laptop, x64, Dell E7470, 16GB RAM, built-in speakers, Debian Bookworm Plasma/KDE, pulseaudio. I use this laptop also as mediacenter on the boat and it works just fine for that.

I am using the sounds that come with O: beep, bells

BTW: 5.6.2 sounds the same :-(

Can you show an example of this, please?
Thanks

AIS alarm plays fine! My tests were done using anchor alarm. AIS alarm seems to wait until one alarm has played, then issues the next alarm. Anchor alarm just seems to re-issue alarms very quickly which causes the ongoing alarm sound to be interrupted with the next one. Tested with 2bells

P_Dub...
I do not understand the issue.
The table that appears on raster charts is part of the raster image, and not editable by OpenCPN.
Please explain again.
Thanks

All you need to add is kn after the speed of the current. If it is not too much trouble. As Mike said it could be kts in the UK.
Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #4

Hi sailors,
I'm using windows 11 over Raspberry PI4 and both OpenCPN 562 and OpenCPN 571 Beta 4. Both works fine except OpenGL.

For 571 Beta 4 OpenGL cannot be activated, it's unclicked in settings.
For 562 OpenGL remains active and can be activated/disactivated in settings.

I'm using "portable -p" switch to decouple both installations.
Is there any difference in OpenGL between versions?

Thanks in advance. All the best and good winds
