Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.2 Released

I have installed OpenCPN5.8.2 and it would not run after completing installation.
On attempting to open there is a "safe restart" message, saying in essence last run failed and did I want to open without plugins.
Selecting "yes" Open CPN chart page opens, the license agreement comes up and before I can acknowledge another message comes up (too fast to read) and OpenCPN shuts down.
Any thoughts on what is going on here/
Running Windows 10, installed in the programs 86 folder
Have run 2 older versions of OpenCPN on other laptops, never seen this before

Dave,

On my box the fonts are saved fine, however using OpenGL the fontcolor is not used for atleast the charttext and gridtext (might be more)

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.2 Released

I've downloaded the new 5.8.2 version on a Windows 10 laptop where I've been running version 5.6.2 for several years.

When I try to install the new version I get an "Error opening file for writing" message that looks like this:
C:Program files(X86)OpenCPN\Crashrpt 1403.dll

If I ignore this message, I get other .dll error messages too.
archive.dll
libcurl.dll
library32.dll
liblzma.dll
mscvp140.dll

The shortcut on my screen now shows new version 5.8.2 but I cannot open it all.

Any recommendations?

Right click on the icon, open it as administrator. It should work.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. The program still does not open and when I try installing it I still get the same "Error opening file for writing" message.

I tried installing 5.8.2 over the existing version.
Able to launch the new version, crashes within a minute or two.
Disabled all plugins. Crashes within minute or two.
Fully removed 5.8.2 and all associated files.
Performed clean install of 5.8.2. Crashes within minute or two.
Fully removed 5.8.2 and all associated files again.
Installed 5.6.2, and it runs again without issues.

I'm excited by all the improvements in 5.8.x but in the current crashing condition it's unusable for me. Crashes when I've got the Preferences dialog open. Sometimes when I'm on the Plugins screen. Sometimes I'd just open in safe mode and let it sit on the screen without touching, crashes anyways without any input.

I've got log files, if someone would like to take a look.

Plover...
Looks like you need a full re-installation. Do not install in ADMIN mode, but as a standard user.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.2 Released

I have a Raspberry Pi 4. The official realease for OpenCPN is the Flatpak version. However for the aarch64 the majority of the useful plugins are missing and I can't find any word posted as to when to expect them. I want to run OpenCPN 5.8.2 because of the native support for NMEA 2000. What are my options?

You have to update the plugins in de plugin menu. Then all the plugins appear. Except the Pypilot.

I have done that twice a week since the release of 5.8.0 and half of the plugins remain missing including many that I use routinely.

The base OCPN core has been reported (relatively) stable on all platforms.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

it seems that the big delay was due to post-install windows update operations and after the system being busy for the time I tried with O it was committed to 100% in CPU + RAM, after it settled everything the start of O was more or less normal, I also tried yesterday, after the day before I did the update, the start of the program was absolutely normal just a usual delay of some seconds and dragging was at the same time that clicked on mouse.

hopefully it has been a issue of the o.s. update.
