Crashing Under Win 11


5.8.4 crashes quite a bit when I close it down (hitting the X in the upper right corner of the window) after a passage. I am always offline so the crash reports are not shared. I've uploaded them here.

Send to Peer


Hi All, I have an Galaxy Tab S6 Lite tablet running Android 13 with OpenCPN 5.8.4
And a Win 11 PC running OpenCPN 5.8.4.


When I connect to the same hotspot or wifi router they never see each other to share routes/waypoints via Send To Peer.


Any suggestions what I should look for to troubleshoot?

Just for info: Send To Peer is working for me on Win10 and A11. The A11 supplies network for both with its HotSpot.

One thing I learned though is to open, or restart, OCPN after the network connection on each device is established.
BTW: To completely close OCPN on a Android you need to push the "Back button, "<", twice.

Thanks for that. I took your advice and opened OCPN only after the network was connected. And... voila! I could see the PC from the android. However, even though I did the same on the Win 11, it could not find the android tablet.


Anyone have any ideas? Could Firewall/Antivirus software get in the way?

Hi Dave and Team...

Thank you for all of your efforts on this great tool! We have been running 5.8.2-0 for the past few months and it has been stable without any issues. We are getting ready to cross the Atlantic later next month so are reviewing our software tools for latest versions and I see that 5.8.4 is available but we can't find any details on it other than the reference that it is a service/maintenance version to 5.8.2. Given the work required to upgrade, I'm trying to figure out if there is any benefit to doing so. Can someone point me to a list of changes?

Hi Rick and Dave,

I reported earlier that Climatology V 1.6.30.0 does not work with OpenCPN 5.8.4 for Mac. Has any progress been made on this?

I now have the same issue with Watchdog V 2.4.100.0 - see the screenshots attached.

I am using a 2023 16" MBP M2 and Sonoma 14.1.

Kevin thanks for the good report. This is a surprise to us as I thought we had fixed the MacOS builds. I am away and can't do anything about it right now, but you could help by including the opencpn.log file as a txt attachment here. It may show more detail which will be helpful. It may have something to do with the tuple used. Thanks.


PS: There is one other report that weather_routing does not work with the current version of climatology, due to the version checking built into weather_routiing which needs to be incremented and re-compiled so it will work. Are you seeing that too? Can you check for us? The temporary solution is to go to the Cloudsmith repositories, in the Climatology-prod repository find the earlier version, download and "import plugin". That should work. Sorry

Log file is attached - it is a txt file with a pdf extension. My solution to getting Climatology working was to paste the previous version (1.6.30) of libclimatology_pi.dylib into /Users/kevinhiscox/Library/Application Support/OpenCPN/Contents/PlugIns/libclimatology_pi.dylib
Climatology then loads and works with WeatherRouting 1.15.17.0
Climatology 1.6.30.0 does not work.

SEND TO GPS BUG in 5.8.4

Hi All,
I finally installed 5.8.2 to check this problem. It worked perfectly sending a route to a Garmin GPSmap 76cx. I then started up 5.8.4 and tried it. Received the message:Error on Route Upload. Garmin GPS not connect. Log says:

So I think this confirms something that something got broken in 5.8.4. The problem started as soon as I upgraded from 5.8.2 to 5.8.4.

Kevin, I believe you mean that the version earlier to Climatology 1.6.30 works with Weather_routing 1.5.17.0 There is a section of weather_routing_pi.cpp at the top that does version checking for grib_pi and climatology_pi for min and max version numbers. The part that refers to climatology max version needs to be incremented, for this problem to go away, please see https://github.com/rgleason/weather_..._pi/issues/156



As for the problem with watchdog, the problem is not quite as clear, perhaps the log file will help.

Thanks Rick. Attached is a screenshot of my Plugins after updating the Master Catalogue.

Anyway, everything except Watchdog is working. I will await the updates to the Climatology and Watchdog pi's for Mac.

What is the problem with watchdog specifically?
