Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Fabbian,

No, nothing about charts goes into the Registry. The chart folder paths are stored in opencpn.ini.

Fabbian...

Aha... More information...

"I did copy my chart directory to the hard drive. And I pointed to that directory during the installation (that's a new feature, isn't it?)"

Not a new feature, been around for a long time. Hardly anyone uses it, AFAICT.

So, we simply need a little UI feedback that this is happening, and avoid the "Not Responding" message.

@tDan...FYI, see chart1.cpp:2267

Thanks for the fill.

Not at all, this as always been like that for all the chart program that I have been using in the past; including OpenCpn.
Best regards.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

I never noticed the field to name the chart directory in the installer before. It has been a long time since I did a clean install so I've never needed that feature.

It sounds like you've figured out what I ran into and what to do about it.

So far O5 beta is looking good. The revised user interface threw me for a while but I think I've figured out where everything moved. The hardest thing to find was the big "A" on the toolbar to make text appear on vector charts. It's amazing how much I forgot about configuring the program after a few years of upgrades.

It's my subjective judgement that the beta is a bit peppier than its predecessor though I usually use RNCs which have always been pretty quick.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

The Debug window outputs every line twice.
Can't we fix this in the coming O5 release ?

Re: Waypoint Extended Properties

What is the utility or purpose of the GUID box on the waypoint extended properties page?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Yesterday did the first on-water test with the O beta version.
All worked fine, no problems at all.

Only thing i missed is the rotation plugin
A chart mode heading up would be a nice adition to the navigation mode.
This is the only thing why i used rotation plugin in previous versions.

As we drift over a fishing spot, it is difficult to make the drifts nicely next to eachother with a chart that is rotating.
Chart up to the bow is so handy when fishing the wayoints.
And it is so much safer to see where al the other traffic is in relation to the orientation of my boat.

The split windows eliminates the use of AIS radar plugin for me, it is so much easyer and safer to watch te AIS on the same chartset that is zoomed out in second window.
This function really is a game changer, well done team

Ben S..
I maybe misunderstand but what about to try the head up mode. One method is to click the upper right compass button to toggle. See shot.

Or use the 'hamburger' icon to display the North Up or Course Up selection.

The charts is than COG up
So if the boat goes back or sideways, charts rotate

With the rotation plugin, you can select HDG up.
So the bow and the ships icon are always pointing the same direction, forward.
And the cart is rotated to the correct position as the boat is in real world

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Sorry I am trying to catch up and test my plugins with O5.

Does the rotationctrl plugin not compile from source or work with the new beta?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

The Course Up mode switch must be moved to North Up mode.
Many letters and therefore the menu becomes wide

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Starts

Not sure if anyone has reported this but you can no longer turn off the small dialog, containing GPS status & Course/Up North Up Icons window in the upper right by pressing CTRL+I. Is there another way to do it?
